Chapter Eight

Audrey’s Pov.

“I am sorry for ruining your dinner yesterday.” I apologized to Lord Leofwin.  I was in his office, and he seemed on edge so I decided to study him and “apologize” to him.

“It’s fine, Audrey.” He said. “Do you know when you will be leaving the castle?”

“Tomorrow.”

“Will you be traveling with the Prince?”

“Not that I know of. I just hope that you understand why we will be leaving and taking Avice with us.” I replied.

“I do. You must fight the Trayn Clan to keep the heir safe.”

“Of course. Nickolous is the king in a year-“

“I was talking about my daughter.” He interjected.

“Sir, Nickolous is a Prince, and the son of the king, he is the heir to the throne.”

“I have seen that Nickolous will be murdered soon.” I gasped, fighting back tears. “Then my daughter will become queen.”

“Odilia will be queen over Magisrta.” I corrected.

“She will follow her heart. Unlike you my dear…but how can you when your love will die. And your quest will be the thing that kills the Gold Warrior.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked as I stepped away from him.

“Tonight, Prince Nickolous will die and young Princess Odilia will elope to marry a servant she has been seeing secretly.”

“How do you know this?”

“The servant boy is working for me. I told him to win the heart of the princess and get her to marry him. Young Christopher Herd was so eager for the money for his poor ill mother.”

“Well, now I know your plans so I can go and stop it.”

He smirked evilly, his eyes cold as ice, “I don’t think so.” Suddenly something came and wrapped around my waist and flung me to the wall. I looked down to see a wooden statue holding me against itself. Oh no.

I fought against it but it was too strong, “You will never get away with this!” I shouted at him as I struggled.

“Good luck trying to get out Warrior.” He called over his shoulder and cackling evilly. He closed the door behind him.

“Great! How am I going to get out of this?” I muttered to myself. Then I remembered, I am a girl. If I screamed and it is known that a creepy guy was in here they might assume…

I don’t scream often…but I did then. I screamed until my lungs hurt. Suddenly I heard footsteps running to me. The door swung open revealing Henry and Avice.

“Avice! You have to go to the Castle as fast as you can and stop Odilia from eloping! Tell her it’s a trap!” she nodded and left with a confused look on her face. “Henry! Help me!” I ordered him. He got out his sword and cut away at the wooden statue. Suddenly it released with a screech.

“Did that…?” I trailed off and Henry nodded. We ran out of the room and stopped. “Do you know where Nickolous is?”

“Why?” he asked.

“Because Lord Leofwin is planning on killing him!” I said. Then he directed me to Nickolous’s room. I ran there and kicked open the door.

Leofwin stood with his back to me, but his head turned to me. Nickolous looked extremely confused.

“Audrey?” Nickolous asked.

“He is trying to kill you!” Nickolous looked from me to Leofwin and then back to me.

“Audrey he has been my parents’ friend since they were children-“

“He said he was planning to kill you and get Odilia to marry a servant and give up the throne so Magisrta can be queen.”

“Is this true?” Nickolous asked Lord Leofwin.

“Are you truly going to believe a little girl who broke your heart over a long trusted friend?”

“I trust Audrey with my life. And she isn’t a little girl, she is the Protector of the Crown! You are nothing but a traitor. You are hear by stripped of your title and will be exiled to the Land of Nex and will stay there until you die.”

He smirked, “Oh yeah? Well, I am not going to go without a fight. It’s strange, how easily you all fell into my trap. You don’t even know it do you?”

“What are you talking about?” Nickolous asked.

“You are at the birthplace of the Trayn Clan, and I am its leader.”

I glared, “Doesn’t surprise me. You did seem a little tense whenever I mentioned the war. You are probably disgusting vermin with your personality and appearance.” I insulted. He glared at me, his face was red and his eyes were narrowed. He lunged at me. He knocked me into the wall.

He had his hands around my neck, and I couldn’t breathe. “Aw, is Audrey all talk and no fight? That’s a shame. I was so looking forward to watching you fight for your life.” I glared at him. I aimed a kick at his stomach and watch him jerk back. He loosened his grip slightly, and Nickolous took that chance and pulled him from me.

I fell to the ground and watched amazed as Nickolous pulled out a sword from his belt and swung it barely missing Leofwin’s pathetic neck. Nickolous spun on his heels and aimed another swing at his chest.  Leofwin managed to grip his sword and aimed at Nickolous’s chest. Nickolous leaped out of the way and then charged at him with another furious swoosh of his sword. Leofwin attempted to fight back but Nickolous blocked all his attacks and left no openings. He was fighting like a professional.

Nickolous swung again this time scraping Leofwin’s cheek, drawing blood. I watched as Nickolous yelled and fought with such furry I have never seen. He is usually so calm and collected…I have never seen this side of him. It was strangely attractive to me. But I guess when your life is threatened and the life of the girl you are in love with is too…well I can see why he is so angry.

Nickolous pushed Leofwin into the wall and punched him in the gut repeatedly. “You dare to threaten her life and mine?” Nickolous’s voice was scarily calm and powerful. “You have awoken me, you awful man. I am going to kill you, you son of bastard. Slowly and painfully, just like you do to those of your people who disagree with you. Lord Leofwin, rot in Hell.” Nickolous raised his sword.

Then Nickolous stopped himself from killing him. He looked at the evil man in front of him. “It’s not even worth it. Your life is awful enough, being the leader of monsters, I am going to let you live. You will follow through with you exile or I won’t be so merciful next time I have a blade to your chest.” He said, Nickolous walked over to me and helped me up, “Come on Audrey. Let’s leave this bastard to his sorrowful life and finish your quest.” He said to me with a smile. He had a different aura around him. Since he was a prince he knew how to seem powerful. But this? This was different…he seemed more powerful than usual. He had an aura of Warrior but one of more power. One I have never seen before.

It should have frightened me, but instead it amazed me. He was truly much different than any other man.  I was starting rethink my rejection of his proposal. Maybe rebellion was what I needed. Maybe this was a sign. I smiled back at him and walked with him still in awe. Some many questions danced in my head. But for once, I didn’t care about the past or future. I cared about the present. All that matters is that I am with Nickolous. And that’s all that’s ever going to matter.

Well that was a fun chapter to write! Omg! I am so hyped up on adrenaline from that! ¡Whoop aqui estas !(Whoop there it is) Tell me what you think!

Oh and when Henry had to cut the statue up to get Audrey out, I kept think “That was mahogany!” from the Hunger Games.
