Today I wanted to go to the beach, but not alone.
When I woke up, I texted Grant.
B: you want to go to the beach today?
There was no reply for a few minutes.
G: sorry I can't. I have a thing.
B: Okay. Well have fun.
G: thanks you too.
B: love you😘
He didn't reply, it make me kind of sad but I got over it and texted my best friend Leah.
I realize now that I hadn't said anything about any of my friends so I probably sound like a loser, but I'm not.
B: hey Leah, want to go to the beach?
She texted right away, figures, she is always on her phone.
L: I'd love to! Be over in 20?
B: See you then.
I rolled out of bed and hopped into the shower. After my shower I put on a pair of running shorts and a tshirt I got from a cheerleading camp a few summers ago. Under those I wore a mint green bathing suit.
Leah, as she said, came exactly 20 minutes later. My parents weren't home and I didn't know where Drew and Paige were so I just left a note saying where I was going.
"Okay let's go." I grabbed my towel and sunglasses then followed Leah to her car.

We arrived at the beach 5 minutes later, yeah we could have walked but whatever. I lived really close to the beach, which was nice.
Leah and I found an empty spot on the beach and set our stuff down. It wasn't to crowded yet, it was early, but there were some people.
"So," Leah said rubbing some sunscreen on her arm,"how's Grant?" She grinned at me.
"He's fine. I asked him to come to the beach but he had a thing."
" So I was the only other option, I am offended." She said sarcastically.
"Oh Leah don't be so dramatic."
She waved me off and layed down on her towel,"I don't really care, I just need to tan. I'm such a ghost."
"I feel you." I too layed on my towel with my face facing the blazing sun.
"Oh puh-lease Beth, you are naturally tan."
"I guess but It can't hurt to get a bit more tan can it?"
"No I suppose not."
I put my sunglasses on because the sun was started to hurt my eyes,"So, what about you? Any love interests?"
She didn't say anything for awhile,"Well there's this one guy, his name is Shawn and he's the total package. But he's like a total jerk I've heard, so why bother. I'll just stalk him."
We broke into a fit of giggles. Just like Leah to say something like that.
We periodically switched sides from front to back so that we would tan evenly.
I was on my sixth time of being on my back when a group of boys came over to us.
"Look her boys, we've found us a couple of ladies."
I looked up at them and laughed. They must have been in 8th grade or so.
"Grow up." Leah mumbled, her face was facing the sand.
"If that's what it'll take to get you with me. Sure babe."
Gross. Why were boys such perverts sometimes.
"How bout you leave, now!" I said in a stern voice. It must have scared them, or they got bored because they walked away.
A few minutes after our little encounter, a shadow came over me and before I could open my eyes to see what it was, my lips were met with another set.
I scrambled to get up and see who had just kissed me and was relieved when I saw Grant standing over me.
A smile formed on his face and I could tell he was holding back a laugh.
I glared at him,"what?"
"Nothing, you just got scared, that's all."
"Well you did just lean down and kiss me without any warning."
He gave me a puzzled look,"Can I not do that?"
"No you can it's just-"
Leah cut me off,"it's just because a couple of perverted little eighth graders were hitting on her."
"Oh I see." Grant just laughed and offered his hand to me.
I took it and he pulled me up.
"I thought you had a thing."
His facial expression changed from happy to grim and him smile faded to a thin line,"It was shorter than I expected."
"Oh okay, well can you hang out now?"
He suddenly got happy again,"Yes, and I know what we are going to do."
