Jax's POV
I couldn't believe my eyes.
My breath caught in my throat as I stared at the small girl in front of me.
Her face held the same confused expression that I had. Her bleach blonde hair cascaded in waves down past her shoulders and her pale skin gleamed in the dusk light.
But her eyes were what drew my attention the most.
She was shocked to see me, that was for sure, maybe even a little scared, but her light olive eyes had a hint of excitement hidden in them.
My Goddess...
"Um, Fallon isn't here right now and he hasn't been back for few days. I've been locked up in here alone." She says with a hint of sadness.
I feel bad for her, she doesn't deserve to be brought into this world like this.
Fallon will crush her...
"Were you the other man I heard talking with him?" Her delicate voice asks me.
I give her a small smile and ask,
"When are you referring to, kid?"
"When I was in the in-between-"
"The in-between?" I cut her off accidentally. I tend to do that a lot.
"Yeah, in between life and death. I heard someone ask what Fallon is going to do with me when I wake up, but I couldn't see who was talking. All I could see was blackness surrounding me."
I lean against the doorway and ponder on her words. She obviously isn't lying or I would have heard her heart skip a beat.
She really was on the verge of dying...
"You heard us?" I ask after a moment.
I was shocked and I needed to know more.
She turned around and walked across the room to the black leather couch next to the bed. She sat down and raked her hands through her hair before looking back up at me. She looked exhausted and almost haunted by the thought of that place.
She continued to explain her experience to me.
"When I woke up there, it was nothing but darkness. I couldn't see, hear, or feel anything for a while. I didn't know what was happening to me until I saw these white lights coming from above.
"I knew I was dying, but something kept telling me to hold on, so I used every ounce of energy I had to go away from it. Then I started to hear noises. I followed them until they became clearer and I heard you and Fallon talking, and now, here I am."
I make my way over to the couch and sat next to her. I sighed deeply and leaned back.
"Here you are," I say in disbelief.
"That might be the craziest thing I've ever heard."
And it was true, I may live in a crazy world where werewolves, witches, and vampires are real, but I have never met anyone who has crossed the line of death and came back to tell about it.
"Really? I thought that seemed pretty sane compared to this place." She thinks out loud.
Her remark sparks my interest and my concern. If she thinks this place is crazier than death, then she really must not remember who she is.
"What makes you say that?" I ask calmly.
"I may not remember anything about my life before, but I'm pretty sure that growling at people and calling them Alpha isn't normal." She laughs anxiously.
