Finnick
"I now declare you to be man and wife!" the priest announced to the crowd. "You may now kiss the bride!"
Finnick leaned in towards Annie, the girl he had mentored. His lips met hers, and they kissed. After what seemed like eternity, they pulled away. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw his friends, cheering for him happily.
Well, almost everyone. Katniss Everdeen, the girl he had liked since the Quarter Quell, was standing in the corner moodily. She caught his eye and smiled at him. Her smile was so beautiful, it warmed Finnick's heart. He shook himself slightly. This was the day of his wedding. He couldn't allow himself to be distracted.
The priest left and the music started. Finnick grabbed Annie's hand and pulled her onto the dance floor. He spun her around, occasionally getting stepped on.
"Finnick, I'm gonna go get a drink, okay?" Annie said, breathless. "You should dance with someone else."
Finnick made a slight yes motion with the fist behind his back. He watched Annie go to join President Coin at the refreshment table, and made his move.
He walked up to Katniss. "Care to dance?" he said in the usual seductive purr that Katniss pretended like she hated.
Katniss frowned. "Where's Annie?" she asked darkly, but Finnick could see the smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Finnick waved his hand towards Annie. He held his right hand out and bowed. Smiling hugely, Katniss took his hand. They twirled across the dance floor. Finnick wished it was Katniss he had held hands with on the stage, not Annie. He loved Annie very much, but Katniss was more like him. Broken, yet fixed. Strong, yet vulnerable. They had both suffered loss. Katniss had lost her father, and Finnick had lost Mags, his almost mother.
Mags...he thought. He missed her desperately. She had given her life to save Peeta.
Peeta... his mind drifted to Peeta, sick, tired, afraid, in the hospital. His gaze drifted to Katniss' neck. The bruise that Peeta gave her was still there. A few days ago, Peeta had tried to choke Katniss. Of course, Finnick knew it wasn't his fault. The Capitol had infected the air with tracker jacker venom, causing Peeta to hate the people he loved most. He had tried to choke Katniss, and that filled Finnick with hate. Not at Peeta, but at the Capitol, and most of all President Snow. How dare they do this to Peeta?
He came back to reality. Katniss smiled at him. The song was coming to an end, and Katniss drew away from him, smiling. "That was lovely." She said.
Finnick's heart skipped a beat. She had enjoyed it. She had enjoyed spending time with him.
I'll be using the book Mockingjay to base this off of for now, all credits to Suzanne Collins for the idea!
