Masked Enemies

Chapter 10

Finnick

"Let's move." Jackson said as the sun began to peek over the horizon.

"Where? The roads are blocked, and the rooftops are dangerous." Cressida asked.

In the corner, our Avox cameraman, Pollux, started making gestures with his hand. Castor, his brother, translated for us.

"He says we go underground.Pollux used to work there when he was an Avox here." Castor said.

So we traveled using the subway, stopping often. They were always short breaks. I stayed close to Katniss and Gale, but kept my eye on Peeta. I had taken charge of keeping him under control.

"Pod. We've triggered it." Katniss said, stopping to point at the Holo.

Behind us, a scream pierced the air. Jackson stumbled towards us, yelling, "Mutts!"

We ran for our life, jumping over platforms and sinkholes. But it was no use. The rose-scented lizard mutts had caught up to us.

I grabbed my trident and spun a full circle, cutting any lizard zombies that we're unfortunate enough to been in my way.

"Finnick!" I turned. Three huge mutts were cornering Katniss. I ran towards them and pulled Katniss out.

"Katniss, go, I'll hold them off." I told her. I slashed the lizards, and they slashed back. I grimaced in pain as the tore at my throat.

"Finnick, no, I can't leave you." Katniss cried.

"Katniss, you have to go. You're the Mockingjay. If I die, it won't matter. No one needs me anyway." I told her again. It was true. I was old, outdated, replaced. I was no longer the hot new victor everyone loved. I was merely there.

"I do." Katniss said.

Those two words warmed my heart. It felt great to be needed, wanted. Before, I thought Annie was the only one that loved me. I realize now that I do matter. I shook my head, though. Katniss mattered more.

"Go." I threw my trident at a mutt and pushed Katniss up the ladder. I was disarmed.

Katniss just hung on to the ladder, calling my name.

"GO!" I yelled as the mutts pulled me down. The last words I heard were from Katniss, calling my name. Then I sink.

Okay so, again, sorry about the really crappy paraphrasing! I promise once the actual story I make up starts, I'll make it more interesting. Again, sorry for the really short chapters. BTW, as my fan fiction gets more original, the chapters will get longer, like ten pages on Google Docs! If I can, I'll post them all at once, unless they're just too much.
