Earlier that morning.
Staring at the door and waiting for Nickolas to enter is proving to be hopeless. Being a damsel in distress is quite tiring. Prince charming isn't coming. I have waited days on end but nothing. In the mean time, Bas is missing.

I can't help but feel hot tears burning me. I had control. If it wasn't for Merideth I would still be leading Stefan on and planning a clean escape.

The sound of people speaking outside my bedroom door caught my attention. It is a man and a woman. The door knob turned and my bodyguard ushered in a beautiful young woman with hair as dark as night. Her piercing sapphires smiled at me as she approached me with a box. "Should I call you cousin in law?"

"I..."

"We didn't meet at the wedding!" She hugged me. "Play along." She whispered.

"There were too many people. I didn't get to meet all of you. You must be..."

"Katerina!"

"Oh yes! Katerina!"

My bodyguard closed the door when he realized we would bore him to death with words. She waited until the door closed before looking at me. "Nickolas sent me."

"Where's Nick?" I asked, grabbing her wrists. "Is he coming?"

"No. He's waiting elsewhere. We need to hurry while Stefan is out.

"How do you two know each other?" I questioned.

"I'm his girlfriend."

"What?"

"You know, when boy meets girl..."

I couldn't look away from her gorgeous sapphires. Nick moved on from me. I looked her over wondering how they met up until I realized she must come from his world. She must know him more intimately than I do. She must know his secret to be here. "And you are Stefan's cousin?"

"Yes I am." She unzipped a small bag with a needle and a small glass bottle. She took the tea next to my table and used the syringe to drug the tea.

"What is that for?"

"Are you always this inquisitive?"

"It's only fair. I don't know you. I don't trust what I don't know."

She isn't much of a talker. "I don't trust what I don't know either. I don't trust you." She said with a fleeting smile on her beautiful face. "But trust Nick as I do."

"How long have you two been together?" She gave me the cup of tea.

"Three years."

That is shortly after I turned his proposal down. "How did you meet?" I started into the cup of tea, fearful of what is to happen after I take it.

"Drink up. Time is not out side." She refused to say more.

"You haven't told me what this will do."

"It is your ticket out of this marriage. Tell me why you married him."

"He took my son and blackmailed me into it." I sipped the tea. "What about you? Why are you helping me? Nick did tell you I'm his ex-girlfriend, right?"

"He did."

Then they must be really close. "And yet you want to help me."

"With a selfish motive of course. He will help me get away from my father if I help you. So this needs to happen if we will both be free of the monsters in our lives. Drink up Naila. Hurry." She kept glancing at the door.

I sipped the hot tea slowly, thinking of the night at the conservatory. I couldn't tell who that man was but the watch I had seen on Cole's wrist said it was him. But it was just a watch. Then there was what Stefan said about Nick going MIA around the same time I did. I just don't know who Sebastian's father is. All I have left is Bas' hair brush which I promised myself I would use to get a DNA test done. For now I have two potential suspects; Nick and Cole. I still strongly swing towards Cole. It has to be him.
