I go back to my locker and grab my books for second period since I sort of missed all of first period. I have biology with Mr. Goldstein so I have to walk all the way to the back of the school. I peek through the window and they seem to be in the middle of a lecture. I couldn't have picked a worse time. I knock quietly and the door is opened by a stout man in his late thirtys. His hair is starting to thin and he has a white beard. "Hello, um I'm Kathleen Davis." I say rather softly. "Yes, Yes come in Ms. Davis." I follow him to his desk where I hand him my schedule and the note from the nurse.
"Class this is Ms. Kathleen Davis she will be joining our class." Mr. Goldstein announces to the class.
I stand at the front of the room for what seems like hours staring at my feet. I can feel about a dozen eyes on me as I make my way to the empty seat in the back row. As I take my seat Mr. Goldstein continues his lecture over the difference between plant and animal cells. I start to zone out when he starts to talk about chlorophyll and the role it plays in photosynthesis.
I go back to what I remember about this morning. The popular girls coming up to my locker and smack talking on me. My attempt to walk away and the impact. I faintly remember someone yelling before I blacked out and then I was in the nurses office. Who yelled? That must've been Jason since he's the one that took me to the nurse's office. The question though is why he took the time to do that. I don't know a Jason so how does he know me?
Before I knew it the bell rang and everyone was filing out of the classroom. I packed up my notes as quick as I could, while I slung my bag over my shoulder. I was the last to leave the classroom and Mr. Goldstein stopped me at the door. "Ms. Davis I heard about the incident and if it happens again you know you can talk to me right?" "No Mr. Goldstein it's quite alright." I assured him "I'll make sure I remember that."" Have a good day Ms. Davis." "You too Mr. Goldstein." My next class was Geometry with Mrs. Bosner so I followed the crowd towards the math room. I found a seat on the front row, and luckily I was the third one in the room. Pulling out my notebook I pretended to be preoccupied.
The final bell rang, and I looked up to see at least half of the class come rushing in. The last boy to walk in took my breath away. The first thing that caught my attention was his eyes. They were not quite a hazel but a mixture of chestnut as well. I noticed the way they grabbed your attention and left you stunned. He had wonderful blonde hair that was styled perfectly to match the shape of his face. He carried himself with a confidence I've never seen before.
I was so mesmerized that when I finally noticed his eyes locked on mine, I quickly looked down as a blush crept up my cheeks. "Class as most of you know this is Jason McConnell he is new to the school and I hope you welcome him well." My head shot up when I heard his name. This is Jason, the boy who stood up for me and took the time to take me to the nurse's office. He smiled at the class, the most brilliant smile I've ever seen. His two little dimples suited him perfectly.
He walked calmly to the seat next to mine and sat down. I made a curtain with my hair like I've gotten so used to doing. I could feel him looking at me and it took all my will power not to look back. Mrs. Bosner started the class off with review from algebra one. I took notes on everything she showed us just to make sure I remembered it from last year. Just like I thought she assigned us the first lesson in the book problems one through thirty. I only got three problems done in the fifteen minutes till the bell. I gathered up my stuff and headed out the door.
If I could only get three problems done in fifteen minutes it will take me at least two hours to finish it tonight. Plus I have to practice for the winter play auditions. I was still determining how I was going to get in my homework and practicing for the auditions tonight when I ran into a hard chest. I fell backwards and my stuff went flying. "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry I wasn't looking." The boy started to apologize.
I looked up to see those same brown eyes and dimples. I scrambled to grab my stuff as I apologized. He grabbed my hands and helped me up. "Wait your Kathleen right?" "Yes" I whispered quietly hoping he didn't remember this morning, but to no avail. "You're the girl I took to the nurse this morning." " I have to go." I said quickly and ran around him. "Wait!" I heard him call but I didn't stop until I got to the bathroom.
Through third and fourth periods I sat in the bathroom also skipping lunch. I just kept thinking about what happen this morning, why Jason helped me and why I ran away from him. I mean it was embarrassing, and who wanted to be embarrassed in front of the new kid. Especially if he was that hot. I mentally slapped myself for thinking like that. He could get any girl he wanted so why would he pick me. Besides I'm a nobody.
I went to look in the mirror. My hair which was long and brown was pretty but that was it. I wasn't skinny nor had the prettiest face. I washed my hands before picking up my bag and exiting the bathroom. I decided to go home and conquer school tomorrow. The first day of school was awful, I didn't get in the right clique again. I put my bag in the front seat of my little ford escape, and started the engine. Too bad this was just the beginning.
