I followed Braden onto the small stage, and the crowd cheered.

After a moment, he spoke into the microphone.

"Hey guys! How's life?"

The crowd cheered some more, words completely unintelligible.

"This is my girl, Chelsea! She's here to sing with me, so show her some love!"

The crowd cheered even louder, and my heart raced. Braden handed me the microphone, and I took it, hands shaking.

Taking a deep breath, I spoke. "Hey. It's so cool to be up here, with Braden. I'm really excited to sing with him too, and just wanna thank all you guys for being here to support him. I'll be doing a duet with him on the first song, Scars! I just want to say, you guys are all wonderful. You're loved, by both Braden and I. So just know, if you're hurting, we're hurting with you."

I handed back the microphone to Braden, and he began speaking.

"My name is Braden. I wrote this song because I am sad, knowing that you want to cut your beautiful wrists. Because the truth is, that millions of others hurt with you, that I hurt with you. And you will never be alone in your darkness, because we hurt together."

He began strumming his guitar.

"Those scars on your wrists are the mark of the world. An ocean that's left you so torn." He sang that line.

"But remember the heart you brought into this world. The same one as when you were born..." I sang it softly, but the microphone amplified my voice. The crowd cheered loudly at my singing.

"How confused you must be, finding love in the blood that you bleed... but the truth is that I see, why you say that 'it's hard to be me'." We sang in perfect harmony, making the crowd fall into a hush.

"And we all make mistakes... its not you, but this world you should hate." He sang that line.

"You're as beautiful as you were... yesterday." I closed my eyes when I sang that one.

Braden whistled to the tune into his microphone.

"And those tears in your eyes are the product of lies... you've been lead to believe that they're true."

"But remember the light you brought into this world... I promise it will get you through."

"How confused you must be... finding love in the blood that you bleed.  But the truth is that I see... why you say that 'it's hard to be me'."

"And we all make mistakes... its not you, but this world you should hate..."

"You're as beautiful as you were... yesterday." We sang the last line together, and after we finished, the crowd burst into applause and cheering.

"I want to sing a song for you Chelsea."

He began strumming his guitar.

I recognized it as Oh, My Love.

***

Oh, my love I write you this

'Cause someday I'll be gone

And oh, my love, when that day comes

I want you to be strong

Knowing that I loved you more than anything else

Believe that I'm in heaven

And that you'll go there as well

When our bodies touch the earth again

When the people cry

'Cause they'll believe that we have left

Oh, our souls will touch the sky again

And they will glow, they will glow

'Cause they'll be home

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

And oh, my love, I miss the times

When you would hold me close

And oh, my love, those times are what I'll always treasure most

You'll be my sweet angel

And I will be your sweet ghost

And someday soon

I promise you

That I won't haunt you anymore

'Cause we will both be angels

And you'll know that we are ghosts [2x]

When our bodies touch the earth again

When the people cry

'Cause they'll believe that we have left

Oh, our souls will touch the sky again

And they will glow, they will glow

'Cause they'll be home

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

[2x]

If I can't have you

That's okay with me

Just as long as I know

That you're living free

[2x]

As long as I know

That you're living free

When he finished, he switched his guitar to his back, and pressed his lips to mine.

The crowd went wild at that, but I didn't care.

It was just Braden and I in that moment, together.

When he broke the kiss, I turned to him.

"My turn to sing a song. Can I borrow your guitar?"

He slipped the strap off of his shoulder, and handed it to me.

I began the opening chrods to "Love Note for A Rainy Day".

I sang the song, then after, the crowd cheered, and I went backstage while Braden sang some more.

After the final chords, I came back onstage, and smiled to the crowd.

We went backstage, hand in hand, to his dressing room, and I sat down on the couch in there.

Before anything could be spoken between us, my phone dinged with a message.
