The next day, we discovered Jae dead.  He'd been a Veteran, meaning that was a major loss to the town.

"Any leads?"  I asked, hoping someone had gotten something.

"I have one!"  Emerald spoke up after finishing a discussion with Deon.  All eyes went to her.  "I investigated Deon last night.  He comes up as Framer, Vampire, or Jester.  He claims he's a Vigilante, but there hasn't been a Vigilante in play all game.  He could be another Vampire."  I was glad someone finally had a lead.  I helped the rest of the town vote him up.

"I'm a Jester."  Deon told us.  "Lynch me, I dare you."

"Nice try, Vampire."  Emerald smirked as the votes went out.  Everyone voted Deon guilty.  He was hung, only for the town to find out that he hadn't been lying- he really had been a Jester.  I headed back to my house with a bad feeling in my gut.

There was only one person who hadn't been confirmed yet who was still alive.  Vai had never been investigated, to anyone's knowledge.  Technically, I hadn't been confirmed either, but I knew my own role and couldn't distract myself if I wanted to.  So, I ended up distracting Vai that night.

When I opened the door, I nearly had a panic attack.  It looked as if Deon had gotten into my home somehow.  I had to be imagining things- we'd lynched him, he couldn't be here, right?  Then, I remembered what Jesters did.  Jesters would kill one person who voted them guilty.  Everyone in the town had voted guilty on him, including me.

"Deon...?"  I asked hesitantly.  "Bah, I'm being dumb.  You can't talk."

"Of course I can!"  Deon sounded indignant.  I started.  I've gotta be losing it.

"How did you get here?!"  I demanded.  "And why me?"

"I got here because I'm a goddamn Jester and I can haunt whoever I want once I'm lynched."  Deon began.  "As for why I chose you, I was plotting with that Investigator.  She told me to haunt you or Vai.  I decided to haunt you.  Simple as that."

"Okay, another question?  What do you mean by 'haunt' me?"  I inquired.

"What I mean is that I can visit one person who helps lynch me."  He explained.  "And I can either kill them myself, or drive them to insanity so they kill themselves.  Either way, bud, you're kinda screwed."  I stepped back, reaching for the handle of my door, but found it locked.  "You aren't getting out of this that easily."  Deon grinned as he drew a knife from his pocket.  "I'll grant you the mercy of doing this myself.  It's the better of the two options."  With nothing left to say, he plunged the knife into my chest.
