I'm walking round Tescos to pick up a sandwich for lunch when my phone rings.
'Gwen?'
'Aunt May?' God, I wonder how much she knows about me and Peter. I love May so much, but to be honest I don't feel like talking to her. University's enough for me right now, she'll just mess up my mind again.
'Honey, I know I'm probably the last person you want to talk to right now. But I just want to let you know it's not your fault. You know, about Peter.'
'Oh...thanks. Yeah, I know. He told you?' I mustn't let my heart get involved in this. I focus on picking out the best sandwich.
'He just said he's coming back to New York. But then he changed his mind. Man, that boy is a mystery to me.'
'Wait.' Okay, my heart just fell in headlong. 'He's not in New York?'
'I don't think so. He's not with you?'
'No, no... I wouldn't worry about it.' Not like I'm not worrying. 'I bet he's just...uh...'
'Damn, Peter,' she mutters. 'You know what I think? I think he needs to sort out in that mind of his whether he's Spiderman or Peter Parker. Life isn't simple enough for him to be both.'
