Peter runs in crying; he looks like he hasn't slept in days. He leans down to kiss me in the hospital bed, and soon enough I forget the nurse is watching fall into him. 'S**t, Gwen, I'm so glad you're okay'. I smile, and wipe his tears, 'I'm fine, Parker'. He doesn't laugh and looks straight into my eyes. 'I thought I'd lost you. I thought you'd...you'd gone.'
What? Does he mean...? 'You thought...you thought I'd died?' He kisses me again, more gently this time. 'Yeah...I couldn't feel you breathing down there in that tower.'
'Oh, Peter. God, I had no idea. I wouldn't do that to you, I promise. I'm not going anywhere.'
'You swear?'
'I swear, Spidey. I won't die on you.'
Peter smiles; I'm pretty sure he'll break down later, about what could have happened, but for now I guess he's just relieved I'm okay. 'I love you, Gwen.' He always struggles to say those words, I guess it's something to do with growing up without parents, so when he says them it really means something. 'I love you too.'
