Sterile white sheets, bright lights, machines coming out of my arms. It's so cliché to wake up confused in a hospital, but that's definitely where I am. My first thought is Oxford; I don't know how long I've been here but I'm pretty sure I've missed my flight. And then it all starts coming back...Peter's fight with the Green Goblin, falling down through the tower, Peter's web not quite reaching me and hitting the ground. I don't know what happened after that. I've got some dream-like memory of Peter, crying and talking to me, and of an ambulance, but that's it. Oh God. Peter. Where is he? I spring up, fully awake now. 'Peter?'
A nurse comes rushing in. 'Gwendolyn Stacy?' I nod apprehensively, and she smiles. 'You've been in a coma for two days. You've bruised yourself badly and it might hurt to move at first, but you'll be fine. Your friend Peter told us what happened, how much do you remember?' Peter told the nurse what happened? Ha. I look forward to hearing that. He's good at coming up with really lame alibis to hide the fact he's Spiderman. I try not to smile, and say 'what did he say happened?'
'That you guys went skydiving, and the parachutes broke.' I'm amazed the nurse didn't question that; I stifle a laugh. 'Um, yeah. I guess he landed on his feet but I fell on my back!' The nurse nods sympathetically. 'Is Peter okay?' To be honest, I'm surprised he's not here already. He must be driving himself crazy thinking about my dad. Oh man...
The nurse seems to sense what I'm thinking. 'He wasn't allowed in till you woke up. He's in the waiting room, I'll call him in'.
