Fear [Niall Horan]

1st Day

After a brief interview yesterday to figure out what hours I was available to work Evan asked me to come in today to work. I just finished getting ready so I made my way downstairs and said goodbye to my mum before heading out the door and to my first day at work.

When I arrived at the cafe inside the shopping centre I was greeted politely by Evan and the same girl who was working when I'd filled in my application form.

"Hi I'm Lexi, I'm starting here today," I say with a smile.

"Hey, I'm Sophie. Come on I'll show you to the Staff room and toilets then I'll get you started on some tables."

"Ok cool," I reply following Sophie as she comes out from behind the counter and starts walking toward the back of the cafe.

We go through a door at the back of the cafe which takes us into a room with a small sofa, a coffee table and a door with sign saying staff toilet on it. It looks cosy and spacious; it'll have to do for lunch breaks.

"So yeah this is the staff room and as you can see that's the toilet," Sophie says pointing to the loo at the back of the room. "It's not much but we're usually so busy here we only get half hour breaks but it's not bad, customers are polite and the staff here are nice."

"I'm only part time anyway," I say letting her know and she nods.

"That's cool, so today's like a trial for you yeah?"

"Yeah."

"Let's get you back out front then and when it's not so busy either me or Evan will train you up on the tills."

I followed Sophie back out into the main cafe until we reached the counter, when we got their Evan handed me a cloth and told me to go clean some tables of their dirty plates and cutlery then wipe the table over so it was clean enough for the next customer. I did as I was told with no argument as I need to make a good impression on my first day. Usually I'm not one to take orders but I need this job if I want to have my own money.

After spending the morning cleaning up tables and throwing away left over bits of food people had left behind I was grateful when my break came around. I grabbed a drink from the fridge which Sophie told me I was allowed to do then headed outside for some fresh air. To my surprise when I got outside Niall was stood leant against the wall waiting for me.

"What are you doing here?"

"Thought I'd come say hello to my girl on her first day, how is it so far?"

"Good actually, it's more fun then I thought and after break Sophie is going to teach me how to work the till," I explain stepping into Niall's tattooed arms.

"Aww that's good you're enjoying yourself babe, what time do you get off?"

"I think I finish about 3."

"Want me to pick you up after work?" He asks with a cheeky smile and I just can't resist.

"Yeah sure."

I stay outside with Niall for a good 20 minutes while drinking my drink and chatting with him, I notice the cafe starting to get busy so I say goodbye to Niall and head back inside.

"Where do you want me?" I ask Evan who's at the till

"Could you clear some tables for me please then when the customers die down a bit I'll have Sophie train you on the checkout," Evan explains and I get straight to work clearing tables.

When the lunch rush slows down and I've cleared all the tables Evan calls me back to the checkout where Sophie is stood waiting for me. He instructs her on what to teach me while he goes and clears tables. I'm quick to pick up how the register works and even serve a couple of customers with Sophie's supervision, all I need to do now is memorize some of the prices that need to be hand typed into the till.

At the end of my shift I feel exhausted but happy with myself that I done the best I could and it didn't go un-noticed.

"Well done today Lexi, you done a great job and even cut 10 minutes of your own time when you noticed we were getting busy, very proud of you," Evan, my supervisor complimented me.

"Thank you."

"Go on. I can see your boyfriend waiting outside for you. We'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yes you will bye."

I was quick to exit the cafe and jump into Niall's awaiting arms. He smelt so good and always gives the best hugs. When he released me from his grip I took his hand in mine as he lead the way back to his apartment. A nice night just the two of us before I go back to work tomorrow.
