Chris POV

Evangeline gave me a sat phone number last time we spoke. She gave me the assurance that she would never change the number to make it easier for people who had it to reach her. I used her instructions from that same conversation to acquire a secure line before dialing in the number.

"Chris? What's wrong?" I could hear people in the room with her, talking about unit tests and functionalities, and I surmised that she was in the middle of a meeting for her day job.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but I need your help, Evangeline."

"It's no bother, really." She mumbled something in a foreign language to the people she was speaking with and then I heard her exit the room. "What can I do for you? Tell me everything and don't skimp on the details."

"Since the last time we spoke, I started working for a guy named Matthew Patrick, for a YouTube channel called --"

"GTLive." She cut me off. "I'm a fan. Did something happen to you guys over there?"

"Yes. Someone drugged us all and kidnapped Matthew." I heard her sharp inhale. "Evangeline, I know it already, but it would put the rest of the people I'm with in this room right now if you promise that you won't leak this news to anyone."

"Of course. And since we're going to be working together, you might as well call me by my real name. So please, call me Vanessa. Or Nessa. Now, here's the clincher. Do you need me there right now? And how much time do we have before this guy starts doing red roomy stuff to MatPat?"

"How did you know this was Red Room related?"

"Why else would you call?" She had a point.

"Roughly fourteen and a half hours. And we might need your...other skills as well." I recalled the day one of her own got kidnapped and everyone watching that day saw her in action, the real her, kicking ass and taking lives like nobody's business. Not that I was seeking out the red room, but rumor had it that on that day, everyone in her contacts list was sent a link, supposedly so that everyone who knew her would see her lose someone she cared for like family. She had my name in her address book.

"You're lucky I'm working on something right now that might get me there fairly quick. Give me your three word address." She talked me through how I could find that, then I told her the three words it said on the screen, and then she hung up.

"Well? Will she help?" Steph sounded really antsy now. She really wanted to get on with finding Matthew and honestly no one could blame her. Those two were soul mates; one couldn't just sit around waiting for the other to get filleted on the other side of the screen. "If she can't, I'm sure we can figure this out on--"

"AAAAAH!" We heard someone drop to the ground floor. The shriek had us running to see who the new visitor was, hoping that it wasn't anyone that would take another one of us next. We got to the bottom of the stairs and saw a girl with crimson hair and pale skin lying on the ground. She had a glowing amulet around her neck, something that looked like it contained...power, if that made any sense at all. In fact, something about all of this girl emulated power. There was no way. Was this...

"Evangeline?" Her eyes snapped open and looked around her.

"I thought I told you to call me Nessa." She said as she stood up. "And I should have given you better instructions on getting that address. I ended up landing on thin air, and I can't fly just yet." She stuck her hand out at us. "Hi. I'm Vanessa Alexandria Geron. People in the dark web call me Evangeline. I'm here to save your MatPat."

A/N: Yes, yes, I know that the last line is sooooooo cheesy, but Evangeline -- I mean Nessa -- just couldn't help herself. Hehe. Lemme know what you think of her.

Question of the chapter: How did you discover fanfiction? And follow-up question: What fandom were you in when you discovered fanfiction? I was in 6th grade and my classmate told me to look up Dramione fanfics, and I never did. But I was in the CSI fandom, and I saw a fanfic section on one of the sites, and I started reading. So that's how I discovered fanfiction.

Glossary:
sat phone - Satellite phone. Holds an unlisted number that no cell service provider has on record. Usually found with military forces, if my TV trivia knowledge is serving me well today.
Three word address - an experimental addressing system that gives a very precise location of exactly where you are in the world. Usually I'd attempt to explain, but what3words.com will explain it SO much better than I ever can.

Next update in 24-26 hours, until then, I'll chat with you guys over in the comments section and on Twitter (muddy_orbs). Bye!
