I didn't scream. I didn't move. Heck, I didn't even breathe. Darren and Steve stopped tugging on me and froze in their spots. We were all holding hands, scared for our lives.
The snakes eyes were staring into my soul. For the first time in my entire life, I felt scared of a snake! He was hissing at her loudly, barring his huge fangs that were about the size of a baseball bat.
And even with the huge snake's furious hissing, I heard another, though, softer, hiss. It didn't sound angry or aggressive, and it almost had a sort of soothing tune to it. I turned my he'd to the side, and my mouth dropped.
The Snake Boy!
He was almost exactly how I had pictured him: green, scaly skin, greenish-blonde hair, two fangs visible on each side of his mouth, and he even ha snake eyes!
All he needed was the tongue!
He trailed his hand along the side of the huge snake, and the snake stopped hissing, and slid away from Steve, Darren and I, and pushed himself up under the Snake Boy's arm. The Snake Boy tickled the snake under its chin, an in return, the snake licked him.
I felt Steve and Darren calm down, and I swear I could hear Steve roll his eyes. Darren heave a sigh of relief, and a sigh of gasping, because he held his breath the entire time. As if to hide himself from the snake.
Steve trailed his hand through his white hair, and I could see a glare of sweat on his forehead. "Was that awesome, or what?" I whispered to them enthusiastically, throwing my hands in the air.
I expected Steve to say something witty back like "Babe, just make out with the guy so we can leave" or "Get your pictures and lets bolt, okay, I'm tired" but he still looked a bit sick. He stared at Darren and I, and stuffed his hands in his pocket with his head facing the floor. He didn't say a word, and Darren and I didn't ask.
The Snake Boy inched closer to us, and I felt the biggest smile crept on my face. "Sorry about her," he said, his voice deep, but not too deep; He couldn't be any older than fifteen. "She likes the attention."
"As you see!" I heard a booming voice from the highest seats, an Mr.Tall stood high and mighty with his arms speed out. "We have missed one act! Ladies and gentleman, I present to you... The Snake Boy!"
"That's me, nice meeting you guys. Well. Sorta." and he left. But the odd thing, was that he literally got on the ground and slithered onto the stage, along with the snake!
He showed a few of his snake abilities, and for once I felt like I wasn't the only freak in the world. I'd seen so many people like me today, and it made me realize I shouldn't be so frightened.
If these people are courageous enough to show their freakish gift, I should be able to be, at least, proud of mine.
But it's different when you're not in the freak show...
After the Snake Boy preformed, he went off stage, and Darren, Steve and I walked out of the theatre.
But not exactly.
Darren and I were talking about how amazing the acts were, an Darren mainly talked about the spider act. I teased him, and said that I thought the man, Larten Crepsley, was rather attractive, and he blushed and elbowed me.
But every time I mentioned that name, Steve flinched. Once we were closer to the doors, Steve stopped dead in his tracks. "You guys go on without me." he said.
"Steve?"
"Just leave. I'll be okay."
"Steve, buddy?"
