Everyone stays silent, not wanting to upset the King even further. He has to know what happened though. There is no way to prevent the news.

"Your son, he has died. I'm sorry.", I say softly to him.

"Is this true elf?", he asks shocked.

"Yes, he fell in battle I believe. Noi Melain na Theodred.", I say honestly.
(May the Valar be with Theodred)

"Get his body ready." he orders everyone, "We have his funeral in an hour."

King Theoden goes inside and Mithrandir follows. Everyone else seems to rush in preparation. Eowyn stands by herself on the steps, so I go up to her.

"Hello, Hiril Eowyn."
(Lady)

"Please, just call me Eowyn." she replies, "What is your name?"

"Amber Light." I answer, "I am truly sorry for your loss. Theodred was a great man, I can tell."

"He was. I just wish my brother Eomer was here.", she says with sadness.

"Eomer? I have seen him a day or two ago." I tell Eowyn, "He told me he was banished from Rohan with his riders. Eomer only does what is right. Trust me, he will come back when Rohan will need him. Just not now."

"Thank you Amber." she says less upset, "No offence, but you cannot go to the funeral with dirty and torn clothes. Come with me, I'll help you wash up."

"You do not have too-"

"Please, it is the least I can do. You freed my uncle from Saruman and Grima's spell."

"I didn't actually free him.", I say.

"But you helped which counts. I'm not taking no for an answer...", Eowyn says determined.

"Alright.", I give in.

I knew I would convince you!", she exclaims, dragging me by the arm.

We go inside and I follow her up stairs, through hallways, and around chambers. She opens a door into a room and I step inside.

"This is my room. You can wash up while I pick out something nice for you to wear.", she explains.

I walk into the bathroom, and see myself in the mirror. My hair is all tangled. I'm covered in dried blood, dirt and grim. My clothes are ripped except for my cloak. Eowyn was right. I draw the water and in five minutes, I'm all rinsed off. The water feels so great and refreshing.

I haven't been this relaxed since my last visit to Lothlorien. My parents, Haldir, our spot outside the borders, and home crash into my mind at once. I can't dwell on what I left behind so I climb out of the tub and wrap a towel around myself.

"I left you something to wear, I'll come in once you have changed.", Eowyn calls.

I find a dress hanging by the door and slip into it. It's a plain, long, dark blue one. I grab the mithril tree necklace Galadriel gave me off the counter and fasten it. My hand closes over the pendent and some of my homesickness vanishes. I put my silver band on too.

"You can come in now.", I say.

As Eowyn opens the door she looks at me with delight.

"I knew that dress would be perfect on you.", she says.

"Again, you really didn't-"

"No more of that!" she cuts me off, "I am also going to do your hair and that is final."

She gets a brush and brushes my long, tangled brown hair. Once it is straight again, she pins two end strands on ether side. Eowyn helps me put on my moms cloak and ties it with the Lothlorien brooch. She glances curiously at the Lorien leaf, but hands me my knife instead.

"Normally you shouldn't carry a weapon at funerals in Edoras" she begins, "But these days, it is best if you have something to protect yourself. Your weapons are in my closet along with your clothes and boots. My maid will care for them. Hide your dagger in the little compartment I've sewn quickly into your cloak. That is where I hid mine."

Eowyn opens up her own cloak and on the side, a mini sword is attached. I put Haldir's knife inside my cloak and it stays perfectly.

"Thank you so much Eowyn!" I say stepping into flats she laid out, "This is certainly a step up from hiding the dagger in my boot. How can I repay you?"

"I said you didn't need to Amber. You helped save my uncle, remember?", she replies sternly, "We should go now. Wait, can you repay me by staying by my side?"

"Of course.", I answer.

She smiles and we make our way out of the hall. We enter a field where the tomb is laid. Some people are here already. Eowyn and I stay quiet. More Rohirrim arrive after a while.

Theoden and Gandalf get here when everyone is gathered. The ceremony begins by Theodred's body being carried to the tomb. Eowyn sings, while the women lay him on top of his tomb.

"Bealocwealm hafao freone frecan forth,
Onsended giedd sculon singon gleomenn sorgiende, on Meduselde paet he ma na waere,
Paet he ma nowere is,
Purh niedig rest
And meegen dearost Bealo..."

(An evil death has set fourth a noble warrior,
A song shall sing sorrowing minstrels, in Meduselde that he is no more,
That he is nowhere anymore for his necessary rest,
And that he is the dearest kinsman, Killing took him...)

The tomb shuts and we all bow in respect. After a few moments, people start to leave. More people go so Aragon, Gimli and Legolas head out too. Soon Eowyn and I go, leaving King Theoden and Mithrandir alone.
