Everyone eyes us as we press the "up" arrow to the elevator.
"Guys, where are you going?" Brendon asks.
"The roof" Alia answers.
"Can we do that?" Lily says.
"I wanna come" James smiles.
"Guys, Warner's gonna be mad" Kenji says.
"He'll be mad if you tell him" I say.
"Its dangerous, what if you get caught?" Winston asks.
"We won't" Alia says with an excited smile.
"How do you know?" Ian asks.
"Because I've been here before, that's how, now shut up" she says, suddenly exasperated.
I never expected something like tjat to come from her.
She's been here before?
I can't help but smile at her answer to Ian.
The elevator dings and we hesitate.
" ...Well, Ali seems to know what she's doing. I'm going too" Brendon says.
"So am I" Lily adds.
" ...we can't risk this guys" Kenji says.
We enter the elevator anyways.
"Can I come too?" James asks.
Kenji beats me to it.
"No. I'm not gonna let you get hurt because of your brother's stupidity" Kenji says.
"Aw" he frowns.
"I'll be right back" I promise him before the doors clothes.
The four of us are silent.
Alia presses the roof button.
"What now?" Brendon chuckles.
"Do whatever you want" she shyly answers.
When the doors reopen, we're no longer in the training room.
The floor is empty, as I step out of the elevator I notice its a hallway. Each sides seem endless, and extremely quiet. There's lighting from the ceiling, yet no one's here.
Its empty.
"Sweet" Brendon smiles as we step out.
"What do we do up here?" Lily smiles.
Alia walks up to two fancy double doors and punches in a code.
They unlock.
"How the hell did you know that?" I ask.
"Lucky guess" she shrugs and opens the doors.
It was until now that I realized how much I had missed the sky, and breezes, the stars, fresh air.
We stand on the tallest building in Sector 45. Looking down on all the destruction is almost amazing.
"Wow" Lily gasps.
"You said you've been here before?" Brendon asks Alia.
" ...no" she denies.
"Didn't you just say-" he begins.
"Shut up" I say, and exchange a small smile with Alia as she mouths 'thank you'.
"So were you guys coming up here to make out or something?" Lily asks.
"Adam needs to control his projection" Alia says.
"We know, it hasn't been working" Brendon says.
"Isn't this something you could've solved in the training room though?" Lily says.
" ....it was crowded in there" Alia says. " ...I thought he'd find it more peaceful out here".
"Is this peaceful enough for you?" Lily asks me.
"Its amazing up here" I say as I look up at the sky.
"Perfect" Alia smiles.
"You'll need my help" Brendon says.
"You're NOT electrocuting her again" I say.
"Of course not" Brendon scoffs. "Just close your eyes".
I glare at him and hesitantly do what I'm told.
" ...I learned how to project my power through visualizing it" he says. "Just visualize what you're doing with your power. If you're protecting someone, killing someone, anything. And focus on it"
The feeling builds throughout my body, to a point where I feel like I might explode.
"Open your eyes, Adam" Alia softly says.
I do.
Brendon has his palms against both Lily and Alia, electricity fighting against the shield that's shadowing over their skin.
He said he wouldn't hurt her again.
I'm angry, and Brendon gets pushed back by the wind-like shield and he hits the wall behind him.
"Brendon!" Lily gasps.
The girls rush over to him and help up.
"I-I'm okay" he grunts and stands up straight.
The three of them look at me,
"I-I'm sorry, Brendon" I apologize.
"You did it" he smiles. "You didn't even need a trigger, you did it all by yourself!".
"I did?" I say.
"You did!" Alia confirms.
She jumps into my arms and I spin her around, laughter fills the roof.
"Try again!" Lily smiles.
I set Alia down and the three of them back up.
Summer breeze. Icy blue. Expandment. Beyond.
I open my eyes, and the shield is on.
"Holy shit, Kent!" Brendon says.
"I told you you could do it, Adam" Alia smiles proudly.
I turn the shield off.
"Come here" I smile and pull her into another hug.
Its unbelievable how light-weighted she is. I've been lifting weights all week and she's no lighter than the hundred pound one.
"We should be getting back" Lily interrupts.
"Yeah, before the possibility of getting caught increases" Brendon says.
"I can't wait for us to tell everyone about this" Lily says.
"Let's maybe not let this get back to Warner though" Brendon nods.
"Alright, let's go" I smile, taking Alia's hand.
