Cece: Hey mum! I was just about to call you. What's up?

Mum: Where are you?

Cece: I'm actually in Vegas with a few girlfriends.

Mum: That's nice. Have you heard from your sister? I can't get hold of her.

Cece: Oh yeah, she's here with us. Want me to go and get her?

Mum: No, it's ok, you can tell her.

Cece: Tell her what? Is everything OK? Is dad OK?

Mum: Why am I always the last resort with you?

Cece: Mum, I don't have time for this. Just tell me what you want to tell me.

Mum: Well, as it happens, your father isn't OK. He had a heart attack.

Cece: ...a heart attack?! I didn't even know that there was anything wrong with his heart! He'll be ok though, right?

Mum: ...

Cece: Mum? What is it?

Mum: He, your father, he died an hour ago.

Cece: ...

Mum: I'm sorry Cecilia.

Cece: I – what? What do you mean? He can't be dead. He can't be. Are you sure? I mean, maybe you're in the middle of a drinking binge and you're not thinking straight?

Mum: I was by his side when he went into hospital yesterday. I didn't leave until... it was over.

Cece: Yesterday? Why didn't you tell me? I would have dropped everything, I would have been there! How could you do this?

Mum: Do what?!

Cece: You took away my last moments with him!

Mum: Stop being so melodramatic!

Cece: I'm coming to LA. Don't contact me until I get there.
