Dawn woke up in the same bed as when she first arrived at the DEO. She'd passed out during her panic attack earlier on. Kara was sat beside her, holding her hand between the both of hers. Her face lit up when she realised Dawn was now awake, but then her smile soon faded when she remembered what she was yet to tell her. Kara was afraid of how she might react but knew she had to tell her; after all she'd been through, she deserved the truth.
Kara cleared her throat, ready to speak but no words managed to come out. She was still in shock herself.
Dawn rubbed her eyes and held a hand to her head trying to soothe the throbbing. She screwed her face up as she tried to figure out where she was again. The anger and fear from seeing her mother still haunting her. "I'm sorry.""What? No its okay, you have nothing to be sorry about, I'm the one that should be sorry. I shouldn't have showed you what I did, I just need to find something out." Kara said, unable to make eye contact with her.
"What did you need to find out?" Dawn asked in suspicion.
Kara took a deep breath and began to explain. "The hologram I showed you...it wasn't your mother. It was mine..." she stopped for a minute, trying to figure out how she was going to explain the rest.
"She looks the same as mine. Why?"
"You said that your moms name was Astra right?"
"Yeah."
"And she used to want to kill people? By that you meant blow up buildings?"
"I wasn't supportive of that though." She said in defence, also avoiding eye contact with Kara.
"That necklace you gave your mom...she gave it to me. Like I said for one of my birthdays once."
"I thought that was aunt who gave you that?"Kara felt physically sick having to tell this poor girl that the mother that chose to disown her played a mother figure in her life. She was afraid that she might be mad at her, blame her for her neglection. She didn't want to tell her but she reminded herself again, this girl deserves the truth. So she said it.
"That's... that's because Astra is my Aunt."
Dawn had a blank expression on her face, whilst her brain was trying to take in this shocking news. She felt even more vexed at her mother than she had ever done before, which she didn't even think was possible. The lump in her throat got in the way of her speech but she managed to force some words out. "That means... we're cousins?... and all my family, they're not dead?!" Tears began to fall down her face. Kara gripped her hand, now making eye contact."I promise, both me and Mon El promise, that we will never hurt you, neglect you or put you in any danger. It was a big shock to me at first but then once that shock has gone away, I realised that this isn't all so bad." Kara's fear had now turned to happiness.
"Is there anybody else?"
"I have another cousin, Clark, the last son of Krypton. He doesn't live in national city though. He's what's known as 'superman' he's would be your second cousin."
"So both of you are superheroes?"
"Yeah." Kara said with a laugh.
"Cool. Can I be a superhero?"
"Uuh...I think maybe just get used to earth for a bit and then we can consider it."Dawn rolled her eyes and sighed. "Fine." She laughed.
"You feeling okay? You ready to go back home, it's getting late and we got our busy day of shopping ahead of us tomorrow...cuz." Kara asked, nudging her jokingly.
"That's so weird. I never imagined any of my family even being still alive. I didn't even know I had much family!"
"Yeah well you've got me now."
"Yeah." Dawn said with a smile. "Well I'm super tired so I agree that we should leave. Is Mon El coming?"
"Yeah I'll get him now, you just go sit with Winn for a minute whilst I talk to him about something and then we can leave."
"Okay." Dawn crawled out of the bed and entered the cortex where she went to sit with Winn and began playing a video game.Kara took Mon El's hand and pulled him aside.
"Hey, did you tell her?" He asked.
"Yeah, she got a bit emotional but she's fine now. Mon El are you sure you're okay with this?"
"Yeah of course Kara, she's family. Plus, I love you, if she makes you happy, she makes me happy. I'm willing to help her like you helped me." He said placing both his hands on her shoulders.
"Are you sure? Because I know that it's a lot to take on and I'm just afraid that we aren't ready to accept that much responsibility."
"Kara, the whole of National City relies on us. I'm sure we can handle your 14 year old cousin." He laughs.
"I hope so."
"I know so." He laughs and pulls her in for a hug.
"I love you." She says.
"Love you too. Now let's take this little kryptonian home."
"Yeah." She pulled out of the hug and kissed him on the lips.
