I can feel the adrenaline rush through my veins as I hear my sister scream.
Louder.
And louder.
And louder.
I quickly snap out of it and rush to where the sound is coming from, the garage.
My mother and father are already there. But I don't see Brooke. I look around when I see light shinning under a second door in the garage leading to somewhere unknown. I hear her sceam one last time and everything goes dead quiet.
Brooke never goes quiet.
This can't be good.
Can't be good at all.
We all rush to the door and listen intently. We even push our ears to the door and hear not one sound.
"Brooke?" I call out.
Still nothing. What is that girl up to?
"Stay here Marissa and Lucy. I'll go inside first." And with that my dad cracked open the door. He gives my mother a signal to stay in our spots and to be quiet. I nod my head in reassurance. He finds Brooke laying head fist on the couch. He gently touches her shoulder but there is no response. He looks back at us, all of the sudden Brooke jumps up off the couch with excitement. My dad jumps in the air and looks as if he had just had a heart attack.
"Wow this house is really awesome don't you just love it?! All this crazy furniture, and the colours of the walls! I can't wait for school to start up! It's going to be awesome! And I can't wait to show them-" My dad cuts her off.
"Wow, wow, wow, we thought something happened to you. You even managed your sister to panic." I rolled my eyes at his remark. Sure I was a little nervous if something happened but you couldn't really blame me, something major could have been happening and she didn't even respond. At all.
"Yeah right dad, look, I'm like half dead!" Anddddddddddd my sister's back, with extra enthusiasm as well. "No wait, I'm dead. Look I'm a vampire! Arrggggg!" She put up her arms and walked around like a vampire on drugs the way she was walking. This is making Brooke laugh, and laugh, and laugh. The worst part is I can't decide what her laugh sounds more like, a crazed hippo OR a failed engine as it trying to be ignited.
My parents turn back to me. I try my best to look disappointed and sad.
"Yup, she's just fine." My parents luckily chuckle at me. I groan.
"Oh cheer up honey it's not like you two have to share a room or anything." My mother spills. I crack a smile at her obvious point. Why haven't I seen this before? What could have caused me to be so blind?
I look around the room we are currently in. It looks like we walked straight into the rec. room. I turn and see the front door right before us.
Maybe I need glasses.......
I head towards the staircase as I call out that I'm going to go check out my room. Brooke being Brooke, runs up before me and passes me on the stairs. As she does I can feel her "human" air blow past me. I finally make it to the top of the stairs. The kitchen looks absolutely stunning.
Maybe this house won't be that bad.
Wait a minute.... we didn't walk into the basement, we walked on the main floor. Or so I thought it was the main floor. I look at Brooke, she doesn't do anything but look right back at me with a huge smile ear to ear across her face.
"Is... is this house four floors...?" I looked around. "Shoudln't we be up in our bedrooms right now?" This was really weird, I've never seen a house with this type of layout before.
