We sit in the car, anxiously waiting to get to the Rescue Center to adopt our dog. No one makes a signal sound. We all sit in dead silence, just waiting. It's not an awkward silence which is good since it takes around twenty minutes to get there.
After what felt like a lifetime we made it to the rescue center. I look up at what it's called and it is called "Dream it. Live it." Huh, that's an odd name for a dog rescue center. I got out of the car and followed the rest my parents into the rescue center. There we saw a woman, she had dark red hair, bright blue eye shadow, tomato red lipstick smeared on her line called lips, and to top it all off a disgusting mole smack dab in the middle of her chin.
All four of us approached her at her desk and she looked up at us.
"Excuse me?" My dad pauses and looks down at her where she has a name tag that reads Linda.
"How may I help you?"
"Yes, I called earlier about looking at two dogs, Asher and Blaze."
"Name?"
"Stan Mitchell."
Linda looks down at the clipboard and locates my dad's name.
"Ah, yes Stan, we talked earlier. Right this way." Linda said as she stood up from desk and hobbled around it. She lead us down a narrow hallway. I notice that the dogs that surround us look scared, nervous, and excited. I feel so bad. I walked right into my mom. I guess I got distracted from the other dogs. I look at the dog. Her name reads Blaze. She is absolutely stunning. She is a black German Shepard with tan paws. She looks rather calm but her eyes say excited.
"Wow she's gorgeous." I say. I notice that Blaze is looking right back at me.
"You two have an amazing connection." Linda tells us.
"I don't think we need to go look at Asher. Blaze seems like the right fit for our family."

There is a bunch of agility equipment everywhere and I'm running Blaze through the course. She is listening to all my commands and trusts me to go through, jump, and go around all the obstacles. My heart was thudding against my rib cage I can hear Blaze panting as well. I bring her to the last obstacle, it's a three foot jump and Blaze clears it with air to spare. I stop running and Blaze is all excited as I pat her back multiple times.
"How was that?" Linda warmly smiled.
"She was amazing." I say back out of breath.
"Yeah come on mom, we have to get her now, look at how much she loves us. We have to buy her."
"I don't know girls she still needs a lot of work." My mother informs.
"Come on Marissa, the girls love him and she seems to listen well." My father tells.
"Alright fine. Let's adopt Blaze."
"Good choice, I'll be right back with the papers.""
Linda leaves the arena which leaves the rest of us inside of it. I look over at Brooke and she doesn't seem as stoked as I am.

We pull up in our drive way of our new house. I can feel Blaze panting right next to my ear. She is squished between Brooke and I. My dad turns the car off and we all step out of it. I put Blaze's neon blue leash on her collar and lead her out of the car. I walked up to the door and waited for my parents to hurry up and unlock it . The rest finally make it to the door and unlock it.
"Why don't you take Blaze to the backyard?"
"I haven't even looked at the backyard yet."
"Well now's your chance Lucy." I walk Blaze through the shortcut and straight to the deck. I opened it up and took the leash off of Blaze once I noticed that this yard goes on for acres. Blaze runs off to the field as I walk down the stairs of the deck.
I can hear the wind whistling as I get goosebumps on my skin. I cross my arms over each other and walk on the long bright green grass. The trees are blowing, making this scene even more peaceful. I start to run after Blaze.
After a few minutes I start to slow down. I'm pretty lazy some days, especially after I just ate a big fattening meal. Blaze hears me breathing heavily and turns around. She runs to me and when she is a few feet away she launches herself in the air and tackles me to the ground with her on top of me.
"Ah, come on Blaze." I chuckle and get up. She is jumping up all around me. I find a stick in the long grass and pick it up.
Hmmm maybe this will make her calmer....
And with that thought I launch the stick across the field with as much strength as I can. Blaze rushes towards it as I make my way slowly back to the house. I over hear my parents talking about Brooke and I.
"They turned out good." My dad says as he puts an arm around my mom.
"No Stan, they turned out perfect." I didn't want to ruin their little moment so I just sat down near the patio where they wouldn't see me. I too, decided to watch the beautiful sunset. The night was absolutely gorgeous.
