We've been in this car for a good half hour and we can't find a restaurant or when we do we can never agree on it. There is at least one of us who will object to it. Brooke was the first to break the silence.
" I just love this neighbourhood."
"Meh it's okay." I reply.
"How can you say that?"
"Because we've only lived in it for like two hours, we haven't even done anything in this stupid town yet."
"Well we'll be doing something tomorrow when we go to school."
We stopped at a busy intersection. Brooke spots a restaurant called Roxy's and my dad drives to its parking lot. We all get out and walk over to the main entrance of Roxy.
The first thing we see inside the restaurant in the their insanely large sized bar. Filled with many people drinking, laughing, even some are having trouble standing. We wait at the front where there is a sign telling us to "Wait Here Please." We all just wait awkwardly until a perky waitress comes by. She has a big glossy smile across her face.
"Hi. How many?"
"Four."
"And would you like to be seated ouside on our newly renevated deck?"
"Is it smoke free?" My dad questioned.
"Sure is!" I jumped back at her loud perkiness.
The waitress gathers up four menus and leads the way to the newly renivated deck. My dad follows her close behind while Brooke, my mother, and I follow in a clump.
"Man, is she ever perky." My mom admits.
"I know right, I noticed that too!"
"LOL"
I look directly at my mom, did she really just say that?
"Marissa!" My dad's head turns as well. I can't help but chuckle, Brooke doing the exact same thing as me.
"I just wanted to try it, don't blame me."
We finally made it outside. The perky waitress broke that really awkward silence for us which of course I was thankful for.
"Here you are. Your waiter's name is Ben and he'll be by shortly."
"Thanks." My dad returned the smile as she headed back inside. We took our seats around the table I sat next to my mom and Brooke sitting next to our dad. I got comfy in my chair then picked up the menu and starting looking through the selection of foods. I look up and notice how serious my dad is about reading the menu before him. He has his eyebrows knitted together and his eyes look as if they're burning right through the menu.
"Dad?" He looks up from the menu. " Why are you so serious?"
"I'm not, I'm just reading the menu."
"Sure dad." I say sarcastically,
"Hey Lucy?"
"Yeah Brooke?"
"What are you gonna have?"
"Probably a Root Beer, Cesar Salad, and...." I was looking to see if they had my faveourite dinner meal on this menu. "And I don't know."
"Woooow cheapo, just when I thought you had it all figured out!" She shook her head disapprovingly.
"How bout' you?" I questioned.
"Don't know yet maybe chicken wings." I nodded and looked back at the menu. I got sudden chills and felt really uncomfortable. I don't know where it came out of because it was just so sudden. I looked around until I found the problem. It was that guy, the same one I saw on the way to our new house. He was dressed in black from top to bottom with his scruffy light brown hair. He looked over in my direction. I quickly looked back down at the menu before me and tried to block out that guy.
The waiter, Ben comes over. He has red hair and pale skin. "Hi, I'm Ben, your waiter for this evening." He looked at all of us. "So what can I get you guys to start off?" His smile was the nicest I had ever seen.
"Lucy you go first." My mother says pulling me out of my trance.
"I'll have a Root Beer please."
"Would you like something to start off?"
"A Cesar Salad please." He smiled writing down my order.
"Would you like a lemon on the side?"
"Sure." He winked at me then turned his attention to Brooke. He seemed instantly bored with her.
Haha sucker.
"I'll have a Pepsi with chicken wings please."
"And for you miss?"
"Just a cheeseburger with a Diet Coke."
"I'll have the same." My father adds. Ben gathers up all our menus and smiles at me again. I return the smile.
God that smile.
I couldn't get that hypnotizing smile out of my head. The way he showed his perfectly straight teeth. The way his pink lips shun against the sunset. Those bright dazzling green eyes.
Before I could continue thinking of him my mother spoke up. "Stan do you want to tell them what we're thinking of getting them?" A smile crept its way up onto my face.
"Buy is what?" I responded.
My dad sighed before continuing. "We were thinking of possibly adding a member to the family."
"Like what kind of addition?"
"Well... we're thinking maybe a dog."
"O.M.G" My sister is nearly on the edge of exploding.
"Oh my god!" I have the exact same reaction as Brooke, "What kind of dog?" I asked.
"We're not exactly sure."
"Can we get a Pug? They're so cute with their pushed in noses and curly tails!" Brooke excitedly spoke.
Before we could get another word out Ben came by our table with the drinks we had asked for. He handed me my Root Beer, Brooke her Pepsi, and my parents their Diet Cokes. "The meals should be by shortly and I will be right back with your salad." Ben said flashing yet another hypnotizing smile at me. But I quickly diverted my attention straight back to the dog thing.
"Well we'd like a nice calm dog."
"That's not what we agreed on Marissa."
"Yeah mom, we should get an active dog!"
"Like maybe a Jack Russel, or a German Shepard." Brooke chimed in.
"A Golden Retriever or a Grey Hound!" I suggested.
"I don't know they're quite active..." My mother pondered to herself for a few minutes.
"Please mom, a Grey Hound. So many of them get destroyed a year and now is our chance to save one."
"If we can find one that is not aggressive then I don't see why not." My mother agreed.
"Okay so we have it narrowed down between a German Shepard and a Grey Hound. I have read somewhere about how gentle and loyal German Shepard's can be so maybe if we just find the right one. However they are many responsibilities that come with me a dog owner."
"For example, let's say Monday I feed it, your father will exercise it, you would change its water," My mom says to Brooke. "And you would feed it." She says directing it to me. Brooke and I nod our heads in approving this responsibility.
"I can totally handle that." I inform.
Ben comes back with my Cesar Salad in one hand and Brooke's chicken wings in the other. He sets the plate down in front of Brooke not breaking eye contact with me for one second and he sets my salad in front of me. "Thank you." I say to Ben.
"No problem beautiful." He whispered in my ear leaving me to blush. I look over at my dad who didn't notice what Ben had said and look down at my salad.
He thinks I'm beautiful.
