White. Everything was white.

White walls. White floors. White sheets. White pillows.

White clothes. White skin.

But there was one outstanding difference among the canvas. His scars . . .

They were a fading pink. A singular beautiful splash of color.

There was another color.

Silver.

A shard of metal that had rusted away from the underside of his bed.

He held it between his long and slender fingers, turning it slowly over to catch the light.

It glinted beautifully, and with a shaking hand, he brought it down onto the fading color of pink, desperate for something new.

He wanted to splash his white canvas in crimson, because maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't feel so sad.

Warm tears trickled down his cold cheeks as he brought the shard down onto his wrist, deeply digging in to bring forth the most beautiful of colors. He cried at the sting and burn as he cut deeper. With the flow of color, he felt some of his sadness seeping out as well.

He felt better.

He felt lighter.

He felt the blissful sense of freedom.

He loved color, and he was so happy he had been able to paint a new picture before the doctors began to restrain him.

Baekhyun woke some hours later, the pressure of leather cuffs strapped around his bandaged wrists. He stared up to the white ceiling, and turned his head to the side, where he saw a man sitting there with a clipboard.

"Hello, Baekhyun. Do you feel like talking?" the doctor asked gently.

Baekhyun just blinked at him and felt tears trickle down his cheeks as he whispered, "The canvas. You wiped it clean, again . . ." The doctor sighed. "Baekhyun. You can't keep thinking like that. Can you tell me something? Can you tell me why you love color so much?"

Baekhyun sighed too and retorted, "Wouldn't you if the only color you ever saw was white? Can I paint again? Please? I miss painting . . ."

The doctor sighed and said, "Maybe for therapy day. How does that sound?"

Baekhyun didn't respond. He just glanced back up at the ceiling.

He really missed color.
