—LIAM'S POV—
She has depression. A serious form of it. And he can't do anything to help. Harper Lucas might be dead and gone before he ever even gets close to helping. Liam was frozen where she had left him. Just frozen in general. The frostbite kind of frozen. He was amazed that he hadn't darted back into the house yet. But what she said kept him there. Along with the cold seeping into his skin. She had said that he mother was selfish by killing herself. Selfish. And yet Harper might know what it felt like. Liam wouldn't know, and he did not wish to know how it felt. And yet... the urge to help her just grew stronger by the second. A doctor or therapist had probably been tried already. By the way she had acted towards him was worrying enough. Just how she had said sorry. He had gone without parents for a while, but that and depression? That must be torture for her. Literal torture. Liam used to know someone with a minor case of it, and it had been almost contagious. Soon after the person found out that they actually had it, they had pushed their group of friends into it and committed suicide soon after. Or tried to. They had been in a coma and never woke up from it. Harper's was much more serious. Most minor depressions don't run in families.
A/N: What I mean by 'Minor depression' is that it doesn't take away emotion like Harper, it just gives the person complex feelings and suicidal thoughts and can be cured by therapy or antidepressants. In my opinion, there is no such thing as 'minor depression' but it's minor compared to Harper's. Depression is terrible in every way, and if you meet someone that has it, you should do everything in your power to help them get out of that endless dark that is depression.
Liam shivered, and he ran to the back door of his house, closing it with his foot as he walked to the coat rack and hung up his coat. He took off his boots and walked to his bedroom. Running a hand through his hair, he changed out of his now-soggy sweatpants and into a different pair. He got into bed, and tried to block out his thoughts as he let himself fade into unconsciousness.
Four Months Later
—HARPER'S POV—
Harper pulled her hair into a high ponytail, sighing as she looked at herself in the mirror.
This was the day she would finally become a 20 year old. May 18. And yet.... she felt no emotion other than the emptiness that occupied her soul. The depression had started to break her mind since she had last seen Liam. She had holed up in her house, only coming out to get groceries and buy more books to read. Her beige sweater and blue jeans were on her bed behind her, laid out for another day of depression and mind-breaking.

Harper pulled her phone out of her pocket.
One Missed Call.
The only person who had her phone number was her father.
She hadn't even thought of him. He had known of her depression. He probably thought she was dead.
She phone up to her ear. "Hello?" Her father's voice was deeper and sadder than when she last heard from him.
"Dad? It's Harper."
"Harper! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, how have you been doing? Why were you calling me?"
"...I'm coming over, Harper. There's someone you need to meet."
He hung up. Harper stared at the phone screen for a few seconds. What could he want to talk to her about? None of this made any sort of sense to her. She hung her head hopelessly, gaze locked on her feet. A knock sounded from the main door, the noise breaking the uncomfortable silence she had created.
She lifted her head and walked to the door, opening it enough so that she could poke her head out.
That wasn't her father.
That was Liam Grayson.
"Harper. We need to talk."
