Gerrard's P.O.V.

I had already finished more than half of my bottle when I heard someone on a floor below.

At first I thought my mind was playing tricks on me since no one ever comes here. With around half a mind I assume it's "just some homeless dude" and leave it at that, sure that he had no reason to climb up this far anyway.

I relaxed at that thought but I froze again when I saw a dark shape silently entering the room.
It was already quite late and dark and I was so surprised I stopped breathing so the person didn't notice I was there.

My eyes were already used to the dark so after a few moments I noticed it was a girl about my age. She looked unusual. There was something different about her.
Maybe it was the fact that she was abnormally skinny or that all of her clothes was ripped...but I think that the most unusual thing about her was that she was here.

She just sat down and sighed softly. Than she reached as she was about to remove the curtain.
That snapped me back to reality. If she does that she'll see me and I'll appear extremely creepy.
So I decided coughing would be the best way to warn her of my presence.

She jumped up and turned around. With my eyes already being used to the dark I could see her far better than she could see me, so I felt somewhat responsible to be a bit nicer to her than I usually was,or at least make sure I didn't scare her too much.

"Who's there?" she sounded as scared as I expected
"Uhmm... hi." I was quite unsure of what to say other than "I'm Gerard" and I was extremely uncomfortable.

Looks like she was too.
She got up and removed the blanket. She looked at me and seemed surprised by what she saw. And soon it became clear to me why.
I was a weirdo sitting in an abandoned building with a bottle of vodka. I wouldn't like meeting me either.

"Hi I guess. What are you doing here." She didn't seem friendly.
"The same thing you are." I answered aggressively. I doubt that, but I didn't really know what else to say. How do you explain that you just randomly came to sit and listen to music while drinking without sounding like an alcoholic.

"Okay. I won't bother you and you won't bother me" she seemed even less friendly now.

After a few silent minutes I managed to get up and come closer to her. She looked at me with a facial expressions of a question mark. I offered her the bottle I was drinkingfrom. After a short consideration she took it and in exchange moved aside so I can sit next to her. After a big sip she returned the bottle with and quietly said

"I'm Helena."

I didn't really know what to say so I just took another sip.

She looked at me and continued

"So...what brings you here Gerard?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, do people around here just sit in abandoned buildings for no reason?"

Well, she was taking it too far. I liked it better when she was uninterested.
So I did what I always do. I ignored the question I didn't want to answer.
She didn't mind. No one ever does.
But unlike others she continued our 'conversation'.

"I just moved here. New town, new school. New 'opportunities'."

By the way she said opportunities it was clear to me that her faith in a better future was about the same as mine. Non existent.

"This town sucks. You're probably gonna like it."

She looked at me with what I interpreted as a lot of anger, but in reality ot was probably just mild annoyance.

"I would never bully anyone even if I could, if that's what you're hinting at"
"Why couldn't you?"

She laughed unhappily saying "Look at me, I weight like a 100 pounds. How the hell would I be a threat to anyone?"

"You wouldn't. While your 100 pounds might be very unthreataning, they could come in handy for getting a boyfriend who could be far more threatening to anyone you didn't like."

"I don't know why you're assume I'm a bitch who recreationally destroys peoples lifes."

"Because you look like it."

"Well good for me. I assure you that I am nothing like that. I'm the, as you would call it if this were a cheesy high school film, the school weirdo."

I genuinely laughed at this before continuing "In this school that spot is taken. By me."
"Well I guess we're gonna have to share it."

We sat quietly in the dark for a while. I was very surprised that I didn't mind her presence.
So you could say that I was sorry to say goodbye when I realized how late it was.

As I was walking away she called me back.

"Will I see you in school tomorrow?"
I thought about it for a bit and then decided that I will come to school tomorrow. I can't avoid it forever. Maybe it will be a bit better with her there. That is, if she really was how she seemed to be.

"If you look for me hard enough."

I don't know was it the darkness around us the empty bottle or just my imagination, but she seemed to be quite pleased to hear that.

"Okay then .See you."
"You're not going?"
"No. I think I'll stay a little longer."

I guess she was a bit troubled too.

As I was walking away I did my best not to look back at her, but when I was already on the stairs, hidden by a wall, I couldn't help it. I turned around to look at her again. She couldn't see me and she assumed I was already gone. She looked so sad I couldn't look away. I thought about going back to comfort the unusual girl, but I knew that in this world everything is fucked up and it was non of my business what was in her head.
So I just left.
