Isle of the Lost
Nelani POVIt would have been around midday when I decided to try and sit up. It was hard, bruises had formed and my ribs ached. I opened my mouth in pain and no sound came out. It was agony.
'Ok Nelani. You have to stand.' I told myself. I pushed my hands into the ground and tried to get up without success. The rooftop had a broken barrier around it that might help. I shuffle myself over to it and try again. It was almost too brittle to support my weight, but it held. It took me a minute to get my balance, and when I did, I stumbled over to the door to head back downstairs, reminding myself to place one foot in front of the other, slowly. I opened the door and could hear Jafar snoring loudly. No one ever wakes up early here. I didn't want to stay in here long, since he was sleeping now, it would be perfect to leave. But I was so sore, and cold. I sigh, grab a rotten apple and leave for the hang out.The afternoon was cold and raining. I slept on Mal's bed in her hangout and it hurt even more now to even lift a finger. I wondered what they were up to now, if they got their fairytale ending. As much as I hated to admit it, I missed them. They were family. At least Jay was. But all ties are broken. He, and everyone else, is a disgrace to the entire Isle. Thunder boomed and I winced. I was dreading the walk back home. I slowly wandered down the stairs, carful not to slip on the steel framework, and avoided the muddy puddles down the crowded streets. By the time I made it home, I was completely drenched from head to toe and numb from the cold. The wind had picked up from the south of the Isle and it was bitter and freezing. I opened the door and breathed in relief at the warmth of the house. Jafar entered the kitchen.
"Why are you here?" He asked.
"Um, it's raining?" I ask.
"So?" He asked.
"It's cold and I wanted to come back it?" I ask.
"Oh! You wanted to?" He asked. Oh no.
"Yes?" I asked, my voice getting smaller.
"What made you think that I would let you in?" He asked. When I didn't answer he kept going. "Do you think I care if it's cold? Or that it's raining? Get back outside."
"Is that what you told Jay?" I challenged.
"What did you just say?" He asked. Uh oh. I've done it now. Stupid, idiot, dumbass. I cursed.
"Nothing." I say.
"No." Jafar said coming over. I took a teeny step back. "What did you say, Nelani?"
"It was nothing." I repeat.
"I think it was a bit more then nothing." He replied. "Jay is gone because of you." That mad my blood boil.
"You sent him away! He didn't ever want to leave, that was on you!" I screamed. He grabbed my by my hair and I screamed.
"You are the reason he became good, Nelani, and decided to stay in the wretched place. You made him weak, and good. Because you are weak. Nothing but a no good, dirty, vulnerable, puppy, whose been kicked too many times. And now. The Puppy won't be kicked anymore because she is being disposed of." Jafar dragged me outside and dumped me on the stairs. He kicked me and I fell down them in a heap and get a sharp pain in my side. I winced and could already feel the blood soaking my clothes. I wiped the rain off my face to look up to that hideous monster of a man.
"Never come back here again! You are not mine anymore!" And with that he slammed the door. I stared at the door. That's it. I'm out for good. In a way I was happy. No more having to go back there. I laughed in disbelief. I was free. But then a second thought came to mind. Where would I go? I had no other family. I had no friends. What would I do? First, I had to get off this street. I got up off the ground and wandered away, not looking where I was going. Eventually, I could feel the breeze in my face, and the rain was pelting down hard. I stumbled a lot more now and had to run my hand along a brick wall for balance. As I walked, I bumped into a stranger.
"Watch it ya runt!" He said.
"Sorry." I mumbled. I moved past him and kept walking.
"Hey hang on," he said, coming back over to me. "You're Jay's wee sis, ain't ya?" He asked.
"Step sister." I correct.
"Whatevah." He said. "What are ye doin' round these parts?"
"Getting away from my step father." I said. He smiles and looks me up and down. That's when his ocean blue eyes go wide. "Woah, lassie, you alright?"
"I'm fine." I say, firmly. I try to step around him, but trip over my own feet and end up in his arms.
"Sure ye are." He says. He sets me on my feet, but as I stand upright, I can feel my eyes roll to the back of my head, and all I hear is the word lassie.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sorry it's been so long, hope you enjoy :)
