Chapter 10

Isle of the Lost
Nelani POV

I was ordering around the crew to prepare for the battle to win Ben back. He seemed like an okay guy to be honest but I wasn't going to let that show. I couldn't find Harry anywhere, but managed to find him taunting Ben, who was tied to the main mast.

"Coochy coochy coo!" He taunted.
"Harry." I say, he only looks at me and smiles. "How does it feel to be a king now eh?" He asks Ben. He doesn't reply.
"Give it a rest Harry. Give it a rest. We don't want to damadge the goods." Uma says coming over to us.
"You said that I could hook him!" Harry complains.
"I said at noon." Uma replies.
"20 more minutes." Harry says to Ben.
"That says 11:30." Ben replies and I try to stifle a giggle.
"You better hope our girlfriend comes through." Uma says and I take a seat next to her.
"She's not my girlfriend anymore." Ben says sadly.
"Well that's just too bad." I reply happily.
"Leave us alone Harry." Uma says.
"What about Nelani?" He asks.
"What about her?" Uma replies. He grumbles and walks over to Ben.
"19 more minutes now."
"Go." Uma orders. I smile at her and we all sit in silence before Ben speaks up.
"I get that you don't deserve this."
"This. This island is a prison thanks you youre father." Uma growls. "And don't try to look out for me. Because no ones looking out for me. There's just me."
"So this isn't your mom's plan?" Uma laughs "isn't that her necklace?" Ben asks.
"My mom doesn't care about me either. Well, unless she needs someone to do the night shift."
"Ouch."
"I don't need your pity." Uma says.
"No you most certainly don't. Your quite resourceful. I don't see you tied up." I laugh at this, so does Uma. She takes a step forward to him.
"Alright. So let's trash talk Mal."
"I rather talk about you."
"Ah. Plenty and a gentlemen. I really hope I don't have to feed you to the fishes."
"You don't! Set me free and we can go back together."
"Oh So now I get an invite? Jee I wonder why." Uma's good mood disasapears. "When you invited Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos to Aurodon. That's as mad as I've ever been in my life. And trust me I get plenty mad." Uma pats his cheek.
"You know Jay is my half brother. Because of you my half father forced him over to Aurodon and left me broken." I say. Ben looks at me sympathetically.
"I never thought it that way before. That I could have hurt the people I didn't pick. The plan was to start with four kids and then bring more over. I guess I was so busy being king; that sounds lame. I'm so sorry." Ben says. I nod. "You're a leader, Uma, so am I. Come to Aurodon and be part of the solution." He says to her.
"Me? Be part of your solution? Nah. I don't need you. I'm gonna get there on my own." She smiles at me and I return it. "Harry!" She yells. "Let's see what his puppy can do."

At noon, we see the VK's all arrive with that other girl. Gil yells out to us.
"Guys they're here!"

"Hold up! Too easy. Why don't you give it a test drive, we want to see it work." Uma says.
"You were always quite the drama queen." Mal replies. I come up behind Uma.
"Nothing too big or Ben is fish bait." I say. Mal looks at me weirdly and looks behind her. Carlos gives his head a flick to the left and I follow his gaze to a scruffy dog. Hmm.
"Okay." Mal says. "Although it seems absurd turn your bark into a word." She flicks the wand and we wait. Mal turns back to us nervously. I raise and eyebrow and look at Uma. "Talk dog." She hisses.
"Does this best make me look fat?" It asks. I couldn't believe it. "And does anyone have any bacon? Cookies?" The crew starts shouting.
"Give me the wand!" Uma demands.
"Give me Ben!" Mal says back.
"Harry, bring him here." Uma says. Harry drags Ben over to us and pushes him to his knees, I lean my arm on his head and smile. Mal puts her arm out.
"Cut him loose Harry." Uma orders.
"I never get to have any fun." I hear him mutter. He gets out his sword and cuts Ben free. He grabs onto Mal's hand and Mal lets go of the wand, giving it to Uma. We all cheer and race on deck.
"By the power of the sea, tear it down and set us free!" She chants. But nothing happens.
"Wait." I say. "It's fake!" Uma snaps the wand in half.
"No! You do not get to win every time! Attack!" Uma says. Then the smoke bombs start to fire. Bright green and purple blocks my vision. We start to attack. I run up a rope ladder and swing down to my half brother on a free rope.
"Well well well." I say. Jay turns around.
"Lani." He says.
"Hi big brother." I say taking out both of my swords. "Miss me?" We start to duel. Jay's skills are sloppy and I am so much better thanks to fencing practise with Harry. But he is stronger then me, so he uses big blows to knock me off while I try to stay out of his way.
"Lani, I am so sorry."
"Save it. Six months Jay. Do you know what happened? I was left to die. Your father kicked me out about a month ago. I was suffering rib breaks and I still have a god damn limp. My skin was so fragile it would bruise at the slightest touch. But the only thing I held onto was your faithful promise that you would come back for me." I cry out in rage. "If it weren't for Uma and Harry, I would be dead. They are my real family, more then anything you will ever be." I disarm him and his sword clatters to the ground.
"Don't be like this Lani, you knew I would never want to hurt you."
"And yet you did. Jesus Christ Jay. Don't you see that? I am done." I swing at him and the blade barely misses his throat.
"I tried to talk to you Lani. They wouldn't let me."
"No kidding." I say.
"Lani."
"It's Nelani to you." I say. I hold him against the rail with both blades in a cross formation against his neck. "We are not family anymore. You will never be my brother again. We. Are. Through." And I let him go. I walk away and put my swords back.
"Nelani." The word sounded unnatural. I turn around. "I'm sorry." And then he releases a yellow smoke bomb. I cough and sputter. My limbs start to feel weak. Hang on, this shouldn't be happening. Jay has a cloth against his nose and mouth.
"What did you do." He shakes his head.
"Harry!" I wheeze. "Uma! Harry!" My voice is getting quieter. And then everything is dark.
