Alexis took a deep breath as she watched the gate close behind the Saviors' truck. Still, seeing Negan go didn't release as much tension as she expected. Maybe it was because she could feel Marcus literally staring holes into the back of her leather jacket. Maybe it was because she was all on her own again. She had to admit the thick walls of the Sanctuary carried some overall degree of security. Out here were the woods, it was open and quiet, but the time she spent with the Saviors made her realize how important numbers were. Her people wouldn't stand a chance if a larger group ambushed them. That was why it was so important to be on the good side the Saviors.
She seriously had much thinking to do. Negan's offer was tempting.
Crouching down to Kitty, she whispered in her daughter's ear.
"Come on, go play with aunt Annie. I'll pick you up later."
The carefree little girl nodded and hugged her mum before running towards the young woman that always looked out for her while Alexis was busy. She took a second to get herself back under control, her eyes back to their usual coldness that kept her people respecting her. She swung her bat to her shoulder before she stood up and turned to her people.
They kept staring at her, waiting for her to say something, but Alexis decided to keep quiet. There weren't words needed to tell that she was back and everything would go back to normal. A short look was enough to let most of the people scatter, continuing their work.
But of course Marcus had to follow her to her RV. He walked up to her in a quick pace and Alexis took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for his nonsense.
"What the hell was that? Are you fucking him now?"
Alexis blinked shortly to process what he just blurted out where everything could hear them. Anger swelled up in her and she stepped inside her home and closed the door behind them to keep this out of the public.
"Do you want me to shove my bat up your ass until it comes back out of your mouth?"
Her voice was a hiss and Marcus face softened and he stepped back, finally seeing that he went to far. He knew that Alexis couldn't stand the slightest disrespect.
Sighing, she took a seat on her makeshift back and pushed her hair behind her ears, before she continued.
"No, I don't fuck him. Not that it is any of your business."
Marcus shook his head, obviously hurt by that. Alexis needed to keep in an annoyed groan, they'd talked many times about that. She didn't want feelings involved in this. It just wouldn't work out.
"You know it is."
He whispered and reached his hand out to touch her, but Alexis simply slapped him away. She just couldn't handle such drama right now.
"Stop it, Marcus. I told you a hundred times that it'll never be likes this. We need to end this, now, it's gettin' in our way, seriously."
The young man's eyes widened as he took in the shook of Alexis actually ending their affair. They fought often, but she never had went this far. It made Marcus believe that she lied to him about her relationship with the leader of the Saviors and he clenched his jaw in anger.
"You can't do this, Lex! Not like that. Not because of him."
He struck a nerve in Alexis and her gaze seemed to grow even colder. She stood up again and glared at him. For a short moment she saw fear in his eyes, but it faded quickly. He knew very well that she could turn ruthless if he pushed her too far. Marcus wouldn't be the first to believe that she was insane.
