"First one to the rock is it," said Cloudwisp.
"On the count of three," I stated. "One, two three go."
We all took off towards the rock; Angelmist tapped it with her right wing first.
"Alright since I'm it first. I will count to ten. Go hide while I count." She cooed as a big sister would. The cliff here use to be full of strong trees now there were huge logs. I crept into one of the large logs and stayed extremely still. Owls had exceptional hearing. Angelmist probably would find me most likely because of how loudly I breathe. Angelmist took off from the rock. I could see her through the hole in my log.
"Found you, Cloudwisp." She hooted. "Now where's that black cat?" He's get much better at hiding these days. "
She swooped around using all her natural abilities. Then it hit her. The most likely for a panther to hide is in plain sight.
"Who, who, who." She cooed. "Nice job."
"You count and we'll both hide."
Both owls hid as Malachite counted to ten. He found them both with in a time scale of ten minutes.
"You both fidget too much. I hear your mother calling," said He. "See you tomorrow."
The owls perched on the branch outside their hollow plop snow fell on my head. I shook it off.
"You better believe it Malachite," cooed both girls at the same time."
He leaped up the hill. He turned around look down on the jungle before. It was cloudy today and very grey. There was a lone crow circling a corner of the jungle he ran through the snow leaping through it like it was barely there. He came to the clearing still buried in dead grass. His mouth hung open from running. His breathing heavy as ever can be.

Malachite's POV

I had not seen a crow or raven do this in years. The poor bird looked frail and weak. I opened up the skin. Many birds who eat carrion came from the trees the moment I took a seat on the rock in the middle of clearing overlooking both ends of my kingdom. I am no danger in the morning to my neighbors, but at dusk it is a different story. I am one out of the four black panthers who lived here. Two of which are males younger than me. The other two are two years older than me. I have not felt threatened by them at all. In fact, they cower or slink back when they see me approaching or immediately lay down. But beyond the jungle the three us make a confidently strong group we trade off each season who gets to be in the annual challenge of winning rights to a female. This year it's my first turn. These males had been friends of my mother and had watched over me and my sister as a cub. I could see each cave of my brothers from where I sat right now. If you were here in front of me you would think I am purring like a kitten who lost its mommy. My life I believed it to be perfect. Winter brings animals together in ways that have been considered unacheivable by man. But everyone can be very wrong occasionally even me.

The eerie peacefulness startled me for a bit and I remember that in winter all the bears are tucked inside their dens buried under piles of snow. I do hope that should I mate with a strong female that she will give birth to both 2 boys and 2 girls so that my brothers may eventually mate will my daughters so that our lineage will remain one of the best. I twitch my ears and I hear cracking sounds. It's a snow leopard and her young one. I growl softly telling the birds to move away a bit and let the leopard feed for a bit with her young one. She lifts her head, looks at me, her eyes held little color, nodded and seemed to smile with her white teeth. I locked onto her with both eyes and nodded back. Winter was a rough time for her and sharing was important for the jungle to thrive.
