"Good morning, Malachite," it was a twittering red breasted forest robin up high on a branch.
"Good morning Redglow." he spoke.
"Say hello children."
"Good morning." They were twins.
"Kids they're are still learning." He said ruffling his feathers.
"How's your mate, Coranation doing?" I asked.
"Doing do just fine. She knows I look after the yearlings while she is busy making a new nest. Out for your occasional stroll I suppose right?"
"Yes."
"Good morning Malachite," chirped a golden goldfinch female.
"Greets Goldsea."
"Excuse one moment," She said. "Perchicoree."
There was a following perchicoree.
"Kids it's hard enough when you have a huge amount of chicklets."
"I understand completely."
Near the trunk of the tree some monarch butterflies had taken up residence there for right under the huge oak grew some milkweed and among that you could see a Yellow Warbler working on one of the steps twittering away. "Sweet, sweet, sweet, I'm so sweet."
"Good Morning Malachite," said Warb.
"It's nice to see you making another try at the nest, Warb."
"I try."
"I'm sure you'll do your very best."
"tchet, tchet,"
"Oh great old Father Yellow is up to it again. Someone is always starting territorial fights over at that sycamore." Every other bird in the forest called the big Common Yellowthroat male Old Father Yellow."
"Ooooooo," whistled an orange Orchard Oriole from above them as there was an apple blossom tree she was sipping from.
"Good morning Malachite." "To you as well, Peach."
"Thank you."
"Excuse me," whistled the Baltimore Oriole also sipping nectar.
"The name's Ora. I became her neighbor last year."
"Have you found a mate yet?" asked Peach. Ora short for Orangeraine shook her head. Malachite passed the apple tree.
"Chip-burr, chip-burr, chipburr," echoed a Scarlet Tanager.
"Chip-burr, Chip-burr, chipburr." the red black winged male echoed back. They had chosen a significant bare forked strong limb on the sycamore a good distance away from the Common Yellow throat birds and the male was bringing grasses & twigs to his mate.
"Greetings, Malachite,"
"Yes, Salutations." chirped the male.
"And to you Lemmy & Reddie." I replied. Underneath the sycamore grew a blackberry bush where inside you could see a Summer Tanager female eating some black berries of the bush.
"Good morning Goldenrod."
"Greetings Malachite."
The male was busy locating a new sight for their nest in the cottonwood across the way. He was red so they called him Redrod and his wings had black fading about the edges. Right now he was eating up a medium sized cricket.
Up in the ash tree, I could see two Evening Grosbeaks preparing for another summer and working on the nest together. The female was called Dustmix because of her earthy colored breast whereas her mate was called Orange Cap because he had a distinct splotch of orange on the top of his head that looked like her had a base ball cap on that was just complete orange. Opposite the branch of the grosbeaks was a branch with a huge grapvine curled about the branch and at the fork of that vine was a newly developing house finch nest.
"Hello Malachite. In a few days I'll be finished with this nest."
"And to you Rainmist." I replied."Hi, Malachite."
"Cottontail."
"Yep," said the grey wild rabbit. "Fluff, & Wish. You rember Malachite?"
"Yes, sister we do. Salutations." said the twin rabbits.
"Greetings to you as well, Greycloud."
"And to you Malachite." said the father rabbit.
"It's good to see you out of that dark cave."
"Moonrise, I would not miss any of the morning even if I could." I told the mother rabbit.Word Count: 569
