The sun was shinning as I sat on the bench watching my brothers. They were tossing a ball around and having fun. I wished so much to join them but it wasn't what a 'respectable lady' would do and my father would very much disapprove. How his rules bored me.
So instead I sat in the sun with my spottless white dress on and watched. Damon had gotten a hold on Stefan and tackled him to the ground with a laugh. I giggled at my brothers rolling in the dirt and again, wished to join them. My father would have a fit if he saw dirt on my new dress. I sighed and picked up my glass of water with one hand and the bottom of my dress with the other and walked toward my brothers. Still laughing, I poured the water on top of them despite my hand maidens constant protesting. They broke away from each other laughing
''Now brothers, look at what you have done to your suits.'' I said putting on my fake respectable sister voice which they tried not to laugh at. ''What will father say.'' I put my hands on my hips and rolled my eyes.
''Hmm, well what father doesn't know won't hurt him.'' Damon countered, giving me a wink.
''Ah yes but it might hurt you if he finds out.'' I laughed.
''Yes, well Emma has a point. " Stefan said as he stood up from the muddy ground. "We have guests coming in today to stay here. Father said that we must look our best.'' Stefan glanced down at himself and then Damon to see that their suits were both soaked and covered in mud.
''We better get changed before she gets here then, shouldn't we brother?'' Damon said.
''That would be wise.'' I smiled and carefully gave them each a kiss on the cheek before I turned around and left.
My hand maiden, Julia, followed me in. ''Miss Emma, you know that it isn't wise to be so disobedient to your father's orders when he said that he didn't want any harm to come to that dress, I must warn you to-''
''Julia,'' I cut off her constant worrying. "Nothing got on my dress, I was simply bringing order to my brothers.'' I winked at her and hoped that she would be quiet now. She didn't seem to approve of my behavior but continued on behind me silently. She was such a clone of my father.
''Emma,'' Just like he could read my thoughts, my father came walking down the hall. ''How is my beautiful daughter this afternoon?'' He smiled and gave me a hug. After my mother died, my father had pampered and spoiled me to ends lengths. He loved my brothers too of course, but he just loved to have someone that he could buy dresses and everything I ever wanted for. I had to admit, my life was pretty good. A father who adored me, brothers who loved me, a whole town who were on their toes to please me. I was the lady of the town. Even though I never took advantage of any of those things, it was still nice to have.
''I'm wonderful, father.'' I gave him a smile, giving him a gentle hug.
''That is good news.'' He put an arm around me and lead me to the parlor. ''I hope you remember that we have a guest coming today.'' Father sat on the couch and gestured for me to sit next to him.
''Yes, I remember. It's the reason you bought me this beautiful dress.'' I twirled for effect, acting as if I was six years old, not sixteen.
He laughed a hearty laugh. ''What do I always need a reason to buy my little girl a nice dress?
''Well you always seem to find one.'' We both laughed again before he continued talking.
''Well the women who are coming, I want you to befriend them. Show them the town, help them out.''
I nodded. ''Of course father.'' I stood up ''How many are staying here?''''Four. And one is about your age so I think that it will be wise if you got to know her.'' He looked at me expectantly.
''Yes father. I will. I love you.'' I blew him a kiss before heading up to my room.
