Lifetimes
We were strangers once
Passing by each other without notice, without recognition
Perhaps we rode the same bus, the same train
But as I was about to step in
You realized this was already your stopWe were friends once
Hand in hand against our adversities, against our enemies
I keep your dark secrets, as you keep mine
But as we both recognized our love
We're already in the arms of anotherWe were enemies once
Separated by our ideals, by our stark differences
We're caught in the cross fire, the violence
But we were more alike than we've thought
In the end, we were still foes and nothing moreWe were lovers once
Nights together up on the same bed, in each others' warm embrace
Our initials carved on the old oak tree
Still, society mocks us and our love
Our love was strong but it was not meant to beWe were connected once
As strangers, friends, enemies, and lovers
We'll always meet, but we can't always stay
Our fate will forever be entwined
We are destined to meet and then to part
Perhaps in another life, we could finally be
If we are connected still
