"Hey! Dev wait up!" a voice called. Devon took out her earbud and looked behind her shoulder to see a certain Peter Parker run up to her. She waved as he reached her.

"Hey what's up?" she said. He bit his lip and shrugged his backpack on more. They walked up the stairs of the school together.

"I uh didn't want to walk up by myself because Flash and uh I saw you so...yeah," he ended awkwardly. Dev hid her smile. Peter blushed a little and played with the edge of his T-shirt. "So...what kind of music do you like?" Dev shrugged.

"Depends," she said.

"O-oh ok," he stammered. She laughed. Some students passed by them, and one bumped into Peter with a snicker.

"Looks like the big time nerd got an emo freak girlfriend," Flash laughed. His friends laughed with him, and Dev rolled her eyes. Peter looked embarrassed.

"Looks like someone doesn't even have a girlfriend," she said back. Flash's friends suddenly turned on him and oo-ed. Flash himself flushed red with anger.

"Whatever, freak," he grumbled. "C'mon guys." He dragged his friends away as Dev grinned to herself.

"That was pretty good," Peter said as they finished the last steps of the stairs. The hallway was full of chatty students. Dev shrugged again.

"He was being a jerk and blatherin' in my ear," she said.

"Blathering?" Peter asked, confused. She laughed.

"Irish for 'talking shite,'" explained Dev, a wide grin on her face. He nodded with understanding.

"So Irish people really do have like a different language?"

"Yeah. It's weird."

"I mean, American slang is weird too," he laughed a little bit.

"Oh yeah definitely!" she agreed. "Yous are always saying weird stuff." Peter laughed again, and they walked through the hallway talking about random American words like "fanny pack" and "colour" with an -or instead of -our.

Dev stopped by her locker, and Peter went off to go find his best friend. As she put her books in her locker, her Spanish notebook fell and she reached down to get it, only to meet someone else's hand. She quickly looked up but then stopped when she saw a sharply dressed boy with a movie star smile. His brown hair was cleanly cut, and his chocolate eyes twinkled. "Hey," he said. "I think this is yours." She narrowed her eyes and took the book back.

"Hi. And thanks." She put it back in her locker and was about to walk away when he put his hand on her arm to stop her. She turned back and rolled her shoulders slightly to stretch out the tingling in her back. "Do you need something?"

"Accents really do make people more attractive," he said, flashing another smile. She rolled her eyes. He was one of THOSE boys. Before Dev could come up with a retort, a girl carrying three books and a clipboard ran up to them. She magically balanced them all in her small hands.
