Chapter five

The next three hours went bye too slow. Waiting for my mother to fall asleep usually flys bye but since i feel bad about not telling Echo about what i did so three hours dragged out.

I got out of the house easy enough. And Echo is just down the street. I took a long way instead of the short cut so i could call Jake.

"Hello?"

"Hey Jake it's me."

"Hey, are you coming now?"

"On my way... Can i ask you something?"

"Umm... i guess. What is it?"

"Should we tell Echo? I feel weird and guilty because she's my best friend... And you're her step brother so..."

"Probably... But will she look at you differently?"

"I hope not... I mean you are more of a friend to her.. Not a brother so..."

"Well, e can tell her together if you want...?"

"Yes Please. I mean i just wanted to talk earlier but you started and well..."

I'm not the one that started! You unbuttoned your shirt!"

"Please tell me you're out side..!"

"Yeah... I cam see you now actually..."

"Okay.."

Then i hung up and ran to him. "Hey, i'll go inside to see her first?"

"Yeah.. Should we get her baked first or...?"

"Umm... No."

He nodded, kissed me and basically pushed me through the door.

"Whats up fucker!" I yell into her house as i take my shoes off. "In here!" She yells from the living room. "Hey." "Hey." She hugged me. We talked for about five minutes before Jake came in the house.

"Umm by the way i notice that your hair smells like that peppermint shampoo i use... Did you.. Like shower here?!" Echo joked. "Or did you buy some?" She asks. I look at Jake and he reads my mind. "Actually Echo... About that..." I start. "I came over earlier today... After you told me you were busy..." "What to come get high with Jake?" Echo questions. "No... For someone to talk to.." Jake says. "Okay... So?" Echo says. I look at Jake pleadingly. "We didn't talk long..." Jake says because i can't. "Okay? Should i be scared? Because you two look like you're trying to tell me you two.. Like fucked or something." Echo says joking in her mind. Then she sees the look i give her. And the one from Jake. "Oh. My. God!! You did! I mean?! When? Where? Why? And why didn't you tell me like right after?! Eve?! What the fuck?! And Jake really? Wow. Just wow." Echo says.

Then she stands up from the couch and leaves. "I guess she will see me differently.." I say breaking a little. "She's just in shock... It'll be okay." Jake says. "I don't think so.." I say as a single tear falls through the crack in my protective wall. "It's all okay." Jake says wrapping his arms around me.

A half hour goes by and still no sign of Echo. "I'm going to check on her." I say standing. "You sure you want to?" Jake asks. I nod.

I knock on Echo's bedroom door. "What?" She still sounds upset. "Can i come in...?" I ask. No answer. So i open the door slowly. Echo is lying on her bed staring at the sealing. "Are you mad?"

"Kind of."

"I'm sorry i didn't tell you sooner... I wanted to but i was scared..."

"Scared at what?" Echo says sitting up.

"What you would think... Of me... If you would look at me different..."

"No. You're the same person. But what i'm mad at is that Jake and i were in the car for over an hour and he just said you stopped by today. I thought you came to get your bong but when it was still here... I didn't know."
