Your P.O.V

I thought Zane was bad in the cave, but when he traveled, he was a million times worse.

He could do nothing but boss us around, complain, and make us as miserable as he was. Eventually, I had enough and started mimicking him. It made Emmalyn snicker.

Zane heard it and whipped around. Immediately, I dropped my scarf from around my mouth and pushed my hair away from my right eye.

"Was that supposed to be an impression of me?!" He exclaimed, wrapping a hand around the handle of his sword. I stepped in front of Emmalyn in a way he wouldn't notice at first, and snickered.

"Lighten up! We're bored and you're being a jerk." I said nonchalantly. He growled at this, but quickly realized I wasn't worth his time.

"Keep moving." He growled, and turned away.

Emmalyn smiled at me, and we sucked up our pride and followed Zane to wherever he was going.

Then, I realized something and groaned. "You have no idea where we're going, do you?" I asked, and he froze.

"How dare you- what kind of evidence do you even have?!" He exclaimed, his hand hovering over the handle of his blade.

I merely pointed to a tree stump to my left. "That's the third time we've passed it." Emmalyn snorted, which made Zane's fingers curl around the leather on his blade. Emmalyn squeaked and ran behind me.

I was a little offended that she would throw me in front of danger so quick, but then I realized I had demonic powers and a weapon, so my offense was short-lived.

Zane huffed and stood up straight. "Fine. I don't know where I'm going. Do you?" He asked, and I shrugged.

"I mean... I might." He slapped his forehead. "You're an idiot." He groaned.

I scoffed and crossed my arms. "I said I might. If you gave me a minute to focus, I could pinpoint a nearby village. But we've been walking nonstop for hours!"

He squinted his eyes at me as if not believing what I was saying. "It's been like forty minutes-"

"Forty minutes too long!" I complained. He was about to say something back, but I held my hand up.

"Just stay quiet for a moment. I'll look comatose, but whatever you do, don't touch or disturb me." Zane must've realized this wasn't worth arguing about, and I smiled.

"Okay!" I exclaimed, and promptly fell backwards.

I heard Emmalyn yelp, but I was already traveling through the air. Not literally.

Everything was black, but my consciousness was slowly seeping out and around the forest, reaching towards the farthest corners of it.

I heard every squeak, every crack, every roar, every step the forest would give me. Even if it was a mile away, I heard it.

As I felt my conscience become one with nature, a warm feeling filled me from head to toe until I was no longer the soul of a human, but the spirit of this forest.

That's when I heard clanking. The sound of warm metal being smacked by an iron hammer.

I ripped myself from my spirit-like state and pointed northeast. "That way! I heard a blacksmith!"

I hopped up with no struggle and ran ahead of Zane and Emmalyn, desperate to be near civilization again.

He grumbled from behind me and begrudgingly followed, knowing I was his best bet of finding someplace to stay for the night.
