The Gang: All That's Left

Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.

That was all he said before death slowly took him over. You didn't know how to react. Everything was so mixed up inside and out.

Pony looked like he was going to be sick. While Dally had this distorted look of pain etched on to his usual unwavering face. It was a look no one had seen before. He blew, he slammed him fist into the wall and ran out. Pony and you ran back to the house.

Then the call came for Darry. It was Dally telling Darry he knocked off the convince store, that the cops were after him and to meet him at the park. You knew what he had up his sleeve, he carried his heater in his waistband.

Don't worry, doll-face. It ain't loaded, he would always say, but the cops wouldn't know that..or care.

You all ran as fast as you could, you mentally taking note Soda ran out without his shoes. You heard the police sirens getting closer and could see Dally coming into view under the parks light poles.

You're breathing hitched as you hit closer, waiting for him to pull out the heater. The seconds felt like years but he never aimed. Instead he dropped to his knees; defeated.

"Don't shoot, he's just a kid," one said, but you weren't paying attention to who it was, sounded like Darry though.

In that moment you guys came up to a sight you thought you would have never witness. The rough and tough hood, Dallas Winston, was crying. He may have been your typical hardened JD, but it didn't stop him from being completely human.

He placed his hands on your hips, resting his head on your stomach.

"That thing, that thing that's inside you, It's all we got left of Johnny, man" he whimpered. "I know what I said before..but I change my mind. Keep it...for Johnny," he pleaded.

You looked at Dally, then to the gang, all nodding in agreement.

"Dal, I was always gonna keep it," you began, tears begging to run down your cheeks, "and the seven of us will raise it together, for Johnny."
