His dark eyes stared at me, piercing through the darkness. The alley way was dimly lit by the neon lights from the main road.

I was slightly frightened knowing what he was. But also confused to see him again.

A few years ago, I was a slave in the underground of this city. A place where no human should be. A place run by them. I considered myself lucky though, since what I was forced to do was better then the other things they could have decided I was good for. They have these fight clubs, where they have their best fighters, fight practically to the death and bet money on them as if it were a dog fight. The ones that fought in the ring were of the same species as the others and seemed to enjoy this line of work. My sole purpose was to heal one of the fighters. I was his blood bag so to speak. When he was done with a fight I was forced into a room with him so that he could feed, heal his wounds.

We never spoke to each other. He would just bite my neck and drink until I was dizzy. That was always all he ever needed. He seemed to be a good fighter. But he had a different expression on his face then the others. I guess maybe he was a prisoner, like me. After 5 months of me being his personal lifeline he quietly apologized to me. It was the first time in years that anyone had acknowledged me as anything more than food.

One day he got me out. He freed me. Something he shouldn't have done and most definitely risked his life doing. He never told me why and never spoke a word. I just ran hoping they wouldn't find me and take me like they did the first time.

Since then, I changed my name and started a new life. My nights riddled with nightmares, I still try to live normally. Which is difficult when I have to hide the scars on my neck.

But here he is. On the floor of this alley way, in front of me.

"I-it's you..." I could barely say.

He was panting in pain, his fangs glistening in the shadows.

"Stay away from me." his voice was deep and full of pain.

He's far away from the underground. What is he doing here?

"How did you get here?"

"I ran, but they shot me..." he moved his arm to reveal his wounds. From what I could see there were at least 5 bullet holes in his torso. Dark liquid soaking his shirt.

"You need help." I was surprised he was still functional.

"Helping me will put you in danger." he said breathlessly

"I owe you one anyways" his expression changed as he finally recognized me.

"I know a safe house. I can take you there but you need to promise you wont bite me. Can you do that?"

He nodded in agreement.

I couldn't believe I was doing this. I felt the need to help him. I like to think that I'm a better person to help one of them. Someone that is the same kind as those who ruined my life. I cautiously approached him and swiftly put his arm around my shoulders to hoist him up and support him to walk. He seemed extremely tense, I suppose it was from trying not to kill me. To stop his own instincts.

He needs blood... And he needs it now... It's the only thing that will save him.

As we made our way through the alley way shortcuts my heart was pounding from stress. With every minute that passed he was probably getting hungrier. Maybe we could use a distraction.

"So, what's your name?" I started with a simple small talk question.

"V." he muttered. "You?" he asked while exhaling. I could tell by his response that he appreciated the distraction.
