I woke up today excited about Christmas. It's tomorrow! I've been counting down the days since the first day of school.
"Mom?" I called from upstairs
No answer.
"Mom!?" I yell
Still no answer.
"Mom!!" I try again getting irritated
Still...no...ANSWER!
"Mrs. Chase-Jackson?" I yell
"Did someone call my name?" My mom said running to the hallway where we could see each other because of the balcony.
"Yes, I forgot to get Aunt Darcy and Uncle Jason a gift! What would they want?"
"Um, I don't know, but they went on vacation and won't be coming this year"
"Oh, makes things easier for me. Where are they?"
"San Francisco to see some friends"
"Haha, Francisco"
"You are just like your aunt, who is just like you father"
"Okay so...I don't need to get them anything?"
"Nope"
"Cool, where's dad?"
"In the family room, picking a Christmas movie to watch"
"I'm coming down before he picks-"
"I know what to watch!" I hear my dad's voice saying in the family room "We must watch It's a Wonderful Life! I used to watch it every year with my mom until I was in sixth grade and Mr. Bruner, who's actually-" My mom cut him off
"Percy..." she warned
"What? Oh, right. Never mind about my teacher"
I ran down the stairs.
"Dad, you know me well enough to think that I don't want to know more" I said
"She's like me when it comes to knowing everything" Mom said
"I know" Dad said "It's so annoying"
"Please tell me what you were going to say" I asked
"It's not important" Mom said
"If it's not important, then why did you stop him?" I protested
"Not yet"
"When?"
"Soon"
"How soon?"
"Very soon"
"Okay, I will keep asking unless we watch anything but It's a Wonderful Life"
"Fine. What do you want to watch?" Dad asked
"How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
"You would rather watch that?!"
"I love Jim Carrey!"
"Fine"
"Come on Seaweed Brain" Mother said stepping in between us "Let's watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
"I've always wondered why you call him that" I recalled
"Well...um, a long time ago, we were at the beach and you dad got covered in seaweed" Mom lied
"Yeah, you totally just lied to me, but it doesn't matter"
"Let's just watch the movie"
We watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Nightmare Before Christmas, and ended up watching It's a Wonderful Life anyway. Then I went to sleep excited for tomorrow.
I woke up with my dog, Mrs. O'Leary, and ran to my parents' room to wake them up. We rushed down stairs and opened our presents. There was a journal, a bracelet with a charm shaped like a star, and a cool Yankees cap. These were too cool. The not so cool thing was the huge dog that had red eyes and shaggy black fur, hiding behind the tree. It looked a lot like Mrs. O'Leary, but scarier.
"Mom, Dad" I said pointing to it "What is that?"
"That's an unfriendly beast" Dad said pulling out a pen.
"What are you going to do with a pen?"
Then he uncapped it, and it turned into a sword.
"Oh" I squeaked
Then my mom pulled out a dagger.
"Why do you both have weapons like this?" I asked
"We'll explain later" Mom said
The dog beast charged. Mrs. O'Leary came running.
"No" my dad said to her "Let us"
Mrs. O'Leary backed away. Mom lunged for the beast, but it dodged. While it was distracted with her, Dad sliced it with his sword. The monster dog turned to dust.
"Well, looks like you'll be finding out about everything sooner than we thought" Mom said
