Chapter 23: Joel's Roommate

Ashton's POV

Today was the day of the big concert! I got up with a huge smile. I was so excited, I couldn't believe it. This would be th second 1D concert I went to with Joel and the first one we went when we were dating.

The concert wasn't until 8 at night but we were gonna spend the day together. Just me and him, the whole day. I couldn't wait.

I Facetimed Joel. He didn't answer the first time so I called him again. this time he answered. I saw he was really sleepy. His hair was all messy. "uggh, why did you get me up this early?" he whined. I looked at my clock. "It's 9 o'clocl" I said. Joel squinted at me. "Still too early." I laughed.

"Okay, well I'll come over to come get you, okay? I'll be there in like 20 minutes."

"Okay" said Joe. He smiled.

After we said our goodbyes I hun up the phone and yawned. I was pretty tired too, but that definitely wasn't gonna stop me.

I pulled up to Joel's college. It was super empty today since it was a Saturday and most people went home already. Or maybe they were all just sleeping in like Joel wanted to. I went to his dorm and knocked on the door. The door opened and I saw Joel's roommate Brandon. He didn't look happy to see me. "what are you doing here?" he said.

"I'm coming to pick up my boyfriend?" I said with a confused voice. Brandon squinted at me. "Joel?" he said.

"Yeah."

"He's in the shower."

Brandon said and he slammed the door. I stood there, no idea what to do. Brandon was being so weird. I know he never really liked me, but he was never this straight up rude before. I don't know what his issue is.

After a minute I knocked on the door again. Brandon opened the door. He just glared at me but didn't say anything.

"What was that all about?" I sked.

"I don't get why you have to be here all the time" Brandon replied.

I started to respond but I saw Joel walk by behind him. He was dressed but his hair was wet and he was drying it off. "Hey Ashton" he said with a smile. I smiled back.

"Brandon, what are you doing? let him in" said Joel. Brandon looked suspiciously at Joel and me but he moved and let me in. Joel sat on the couch and grabbed his jacket. I stood there awkwardly. He started putting his shoes on.

Then Joel got up, he was ready to go. He said bye to Brandon as he walked out but Brandon didn't respond.

"Do you know what his deal is?" I asked Joel as we were walking to my car.

Joel shrugged. "i don't know. He doesn't like me for some reason. But it's not like he can't switch rooms if he hates me so much."

"But why?" I said. I was so confused. Like Joel said, if he had a problem he should just switch rooms.

"I don't know." said Joel. "But let's talk about something else. Today will be a great day."

"Okay" I said with a grin.
