Three Years Later

"Myra! Wake Up! You're gonna be late for your flight!"

Mum, Myra thought, I'm not going to miss my flight, I'll be fine! Instead of voicing her opinion she simply complied with her mum's not so subtle request and started to get ready. There really wasn't any point arguing with Myra's mum because her mum was a lawyer and a very good one too.Myra Dawnwill was travelling to Jorvik on a quest to find a job. Since it had been three years from the liberation of Jorvik and Myra had just turned seventeen, now seemed like a good time to find a career.

"Myra! Are you ready yet?" yelled her mum, her voice probably waking the whole neighbourhood up.

"Yes mum," she replied in annoyance, "Coming." Myra dragged her chevron-patterned suitcase out the door and heaved it into the boot of the car. She wasn't exactly the strongest of people, her diminutive stature causing people to underestimate her value. She guessed she'd just gotten used to that fact, mainly ignoring all comments, and just getting on with her life.

Myra wasn't exactly your average girl either, her short brown hair dyed purple at its tips and her fashion choices out of the ordinary. Today she tried to achieve a normal look because she wasn't in the mood to combat the odd stare here and there at the airport. Dressed in a woollen maroon jumper, black jeans and long white boots she couldn't resist adding some chic sunglasses, which of course made her outfit unusual. Her trip to the airport was surprisingly quick, and so was making her was through customs, all the way to gate 96. Myra had just under an hour to relax before her flight to Jorvik, so she spent that time researching job options. There were quite a few for the small island Jorvik was, accountant, graphic designer, stable hand and a site moderator. Myra booked in an interview with DragonTech (graphic designer) and PicPage (site moderator). The app alerted her:

Warning! If you do not make these meetings you will not be able to book another in for these jobs due to the company/s schedules. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Myra sneaked a look at the airport noticeboard and noted that her flight was listed as "On-time". She sighed, decided to risk the fact of not making the meetings and selected "acknowledge".

"All passengers boarding flight JJ-7812 to Jorvik may now board."

Myra opened her eyes and realised she'd been sleeping for the past forty minutes. She felt slightly embarrassed, but mainly refreshed as she made her way over to the boarding section. Even though it had only been a couple of minutes since the flight attendant had alerted the gate about boarding, the line was already quite long. Thankfully Myra had decided to book in business class, so the line on that side was shorter.

"Next please." The blonde flight attendant (although Myra swore her hair was a wig) beckoned her over to the desk. "Can I please see your boarding pass?"

Myra handed the blonde her pass and awkwardly readjusted her grip on her bag while she waited for the lady to finish. She took the boarding pass and scanned it, the machine blurting out a long, low beep and then flashing onscreen with all of Myra's details.

"Myra Dawnwill," said the lady, reading the information, "that's a nice name! Better than Barbara! Are you by any chance from Mistfall? The name sounds like some of their's."

"Uh..." Myra didn't even know where that was, "I don't think so...?" She took back her boarding pass and placed it back in her satchel.

"Ah well, have a great flight with Jorvik Jets!" Barbara replied, "Next please."

Myra lugged her suitcase down the ramp and onto the hot tarmac. She loved the feeling of her short brown-purple hair dancing in the wind and felt a sense of calm flow over her like the wind. It was gonna be a good day.

"Flight JJ7812 will be delayed until some minor maintenance has been completed.  Sorry for any inconveniences."

Nope, I take it back. It's a bad day.

Myra's flight was delayed because some kid took a selfie with a Slush-Mush and spilled it all over the plane's front wheels. So now the wheels were being replaced and the kid was getting a lot of attention from annoyed flyers. This also meant that Myra wouldn't be able to make it to those job interviews with DragonTech and PicPage. She wondered what she would do when the plane touched down, but then reminded herself that she should just let what's happened happen.

Finally after one hour of delay flight JJ7812 was in the air! The flight from Phinskee to Jorvik was about seven hours long, so Myra had plenty of time to do what she pleased, but also worry about jobs.

Ugh! That kid ruined my life! Now I won't get a job, then I'll become poor and live on the streets! What am I gonna do!!!

She decided to instead watch a movie to keep her mind off things, so chose one of her favourites; Crocodile Dundee. Myra was just about to put her headphones on when she heard the trolley attendant ask if she wanted any food.

"Uh, yes please. Can I get an orange juice and a pack of salt and vinegar chips?"

The flight attendant filed the order underneath her name and asked, "Would you like Jarlasson or Kembell brand chips?" He pointed at each brand and then turned to Myra expectantly.

"Um, Jarlasson?"

The attendant handed Myra her order, which she thanked him for as continued down the aisle. Now Myra felt more prepared for the flight, and sank deep into her chair and dived into the land down under.
