sterling moon // free verse
and at night
when the waves pour strongly upon the shore
when the crickets play their piercing music
and the insects all flutter around the tiny light
of the small, island hutthe ivory clouds will all inch away
wafting outward in their thinness
to let the moon shine its light upon the sand
to let its celestial honey drip unto the heads of the two lovers
watching the waves pour in atop their feetthe water reflects the consellations of the sky
clearly until the boatmen of the sea
and their curious daughters
can scoop up the very galactica in their palms
until the brave sailor's son can grip and steal orion's belt and bowthe sirens halt their song
the selkies all rise to the surface
and the mermaids swim from the bottom of the sea
just to see
the shining sterling moon
and its dripping light
on the beach
and on the water
