welcome to hell // free verse
fallen from power
they ride the boat on the river styx
past cerberus, they enter no man's land
with mockery and laughter from the damned
at the end of the river
those disdainful gods
those contemptuous goddesses
bow to hades, pleading for mercy
their golden ichor, now black in color
stain their silken gowns and robes
their ethereal image
buried with their olympian importance
high above them,
in his very own throne of bones,
hades looks upon them as they would the mortals once long ago
despondent and disappointed,
he ushers his brothers and sisters to the home they were destined for
"you were the few meant for the light,
yet you expelled only darkness
heartless, you had the threads of the universe
wrapped around your chubby fingers,
yet you stand here crumbling
your bruised, snow white skin sinks into your rib cages
your desperate breaths repeat a single forlorn plea
for help, but I cannot help you
your pride was your downfall
and to hell you all fell,
here, forever, you will dwell."
