The first stages of twilight seemed to set over the horizon, barely visible through the thickness of trees. Woods were outstretched in every direction, and Annalise wasn't certain she would find her way home as quickly as she assumed. Among the woods were the branches upon every tree consumed in a white blanket of snow.

Every other minute or so a deer would make its way into her vision, startling her for a second. She didn't know why, but she felt the hairs on her arms stand on edge. She didn't like the current feeling she was starting to experience, something along the lines of anxiety and fear.

The coat covering her frame had its own sleet layer of snow on it, shivers racketing throughout her body making her convulse slightly. She never usually entered the woods after that night, but occasionally would find herself standing at the outskirts, wanting to see or even know more. More of what really was hiding in them.

A loud snap sounded from behind Annalise, making her blood immediately run cold. The nightmares of that dreadful night seemed to surface to her mind. It was almost as if she could hear the faint growl emitting from her memory. She turned around with a racing heart, awaiting what was really behind her.

She felt her whole body relax as a small deer stood there. It sniffed the air around the two, looking for any sense of danger. Annalise put her hand up to her hood and slowly pulled it off, uncovering her face. The deer got closer cautiously, Annalise getting into a crouching position.

"Hey there, beautiful." Annalise spoke to her in a sweet voice, smiling gently at the curious deer. Letting her hand rest in the air between the two, the deer flinched slightly. "I'm not going to hurt you ... "

The deer closed the distance between her nose and Annalise's hand, sniffing her fingers ever so gently. Her wet nose made contact with her palm, a tickling sensation coursing in her hand. Annalise was then shocked when the deer brought her body into her hand, a sign for Annalise to pet.

Annalise suppressed a giggle from her pink lips as the deer rubbed against her hand, it's small tail twitching slightly. But, the small moment between her and the deer was gone as it's head immediately whipped up to look behind her.

Annalise furrowed her eyebrows together in confusion. Then, to Annalise surprise the small deer dashed off in the opposite direction of her. Annalise let her hand fall to her side, frowning slightly at the sudden outburst.

Fear struck the girl as laughter echoed from behind her. She then felt an uttering feeling of trepidation overwhelm her as not a single soul was there as she turned around in fear. Every sound from the whistle of the wind to the chirping of birds was gone, but instead replaced with silence.
