~Chapter Two~
A few days later and Anastasia was sitting in the back of her English class, reading a book she had managed to get off of her brother from his university’s library. She turned the page on her book, glancing up at the clock that was above the blackboard at the front of the classroom. She was reading the book while she waited for class to start. Sighing and shaking her head, she looked back down at her book and continued reading.
Hearing footsteps coming towards the classrooms door, her eyes peeked over the top of her book and she watched the door. She bit down on her lip as she saw the door handle twitch slightly as someone on the other side grasped it and she quickly turned her eyes back down to the book she was reading. She remained silent as she heard the door open and someone walked inside. Hearing a slightly annoyed sigh coming from the front of the room, she rolled her eyes as she figured out that it was Miss Stevens. She turned her attention back to her book and turned the page, ignoring Miss Stevens as she continued to read.
Soon after Miss Stevens arrived, the rest of the class showed up as well. She glanced up over the top of her book as she watched the others come in, her eyes narrowing as she glared at Joshua as he came in. He took one look at her before he quickly hurried over to another free spot next to another one of his friends. She huffed at him before she returned to her book. The second class started though, she placed her book down and began to take down notes from the board.
About halfway through the class, while everyone had moved on to independent study, there was a knock at the door. Everyone’s eyes turned towards the door and Miss Stevens frowned before she stood up from her chair. Everyone watched her as she walked over to the door and opened it carefully. She stood there for a moment, talking in a hushed voice with whoever was on the other side of the door before she took a step back and gestured for someone to walk inside. She looked back towards her students, who all quickly turned their attention back towards their work in front of them before she shook her head and headed over towards her desk, the person who had walked inside the room following her over to her desk.
Anastasia watched her carefully, her pen still moving over the page despite her not looking down at it. She paused a moment in her writing, lifting the pen up off of the page before she placed it down beside her book and she turned her attention towards her drink bottle. Though the sudden interruption was catching her attention, she knew better than anyone else in the room not to pry when someone entered the room unexpectedly. She sighed before she grasped her drink bottle in her hand, pulling it towards her as she began to unscrew the cap. She blinked as she looked at the water inside the bottle, stiffening when she saw it beginning to mist over and she quickly raised the bottle to her lips, hoping to disguise what had happened as her just breathing into the bottle.
She began to drink deeply from her bottle, leaning back in her chair and relaxing somewhat as the cool water went down her throat. She closed her eyes as she drank the water before someone clearing their throat from beside her startling her. She coughed on her water, quickly putting the bottle down on the table and reaching up to wipe her chin as some of the water dribbled down from her mouth. When she had control of her breathing again, she swallowed her mouthful of water and turned towards the person with a frown.
“Thanks so much for that,” she snapped before she stopped what she was saying and looking at the person carefully.
Standing before her was someone who very rarely spoke to anyone. A boy who was dressed mostly in black save for the white T-shirt he wore underneath his sweater and a small pattern that was sewn into the side of his pants. His black hair was short and messy, looking as though no amount of brushing or styling would tame it. And his eyes, which were a brilliant green in colour, were locked on Anastasia as she sat there stunned.
