"Do you think maybe it has something to do with his love for you?" Holly asked me giggling as if it's some kind of joke. That's usually me, but for some reason I took this rose seriously.

"Maybe," I shrugged. "I don't think so though," that couldn't be it. There had to be more to it.

"Taryn, come on, you know he likes you! I ship it!!" Kara cried jumping up and down. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to tell them, I should have known they wouldn't take it seriously.

"We should get to class," I told them ignoring Kara's annoying comment. I gently placed the unique rose on the top shelf of my locker and shut my locker door.

Once we got to class I took my seat next to the window. So many thoughts flew through my head. Why would chase give the rose to me? Why me and not some other girl? Why is the rose special, why is it silver? It's crazy how one small flower can cause so much confusion an—

"Taryn? What are your thoughts on the Holocaust?" Miss Witner interrupted my thoughts.

"Um, I feel like it was something that should have never happened, it is an unnecessary part of history," I managed to say. In truth, I wasn't listening to anything she said and I wasn't sure what she wanted me to say.

"Go in a little more detail, what part do you find unnecessary? Why?" She said. Ugh.

"Well, the jews did not do anything wrong, they shouldn't have been captured in the first place," I said. The whole class had been staring at me.

"Interesting opinion," she told me. Everyone had still been staring at me. Then, slowly, everyone's heads turned back to face my teacher, except Chase.

As we left the class I grabbed Chase by the shoulder and turned him around.

"Chase why can't you tell me!?" I blurted out.

"It's a secret, I told you," he said shrugging.

"Can I just throw the stupid rose in the garbage bin then?" I didn't want to but I wanted to threaten him.

"No! You can't do that, promise me you'll keep it forever?" He said. His lip quivered. I thought about it, I mean it was gorgeous, but I learned that promises are hard to keep.

"Promise," I told him. Then, he did something that I did not expect. He leaned in and kissed me on the lips. Why oh why did I kiss back?
