Chase was absent the next day, but I did as the flower told me to do, and kept it. Maybe my life did depend on it. No, that's crazy! It's only a flower! The only reason I kept it, was because of fear, I was worried that I might die if I threw it away.
Before I left school I said my short goodbyes to my two best friends and left to walk home. I looked at my feet, trying to keep my white converse clean. I didn't live very far from school, I could just walk home. There was a shortcut I usually take through the alleyway in between two buildings. So I took it.
I could hear talking in the distance but I kept going. Although, the closer I got, the louder it got until I realized it wasn't talking, it was yelling. Two men were screaming at each other. This wasn't a normal fight in my town though, one man had a gun. I didn't wanna get involved.
"What are you doing here young lady," one man said noticing me standing in the shadows.
"Um I was just on my way home, I'm not trying to interrupt," I said, my voice shaking a bit out of fear. I looked at the other man, who hadn't said a word. It was Chase.
I gasped aloud and the elder of the two chuckled.
"Taryn?" Chase said confused. "What are you doing here?"
"I was on my way home from school, why weren't you at school?" I asked excited to hear his answer.
"More secrets," he said.
"Holy crap Chase, why do you keep so many secrets?" I cried, aware that the older man was listening in on the conversation.
"Oh you two know each other?" the man asked. We both nodded. "Well obviously not well enough," he stated. That was true. I knew nothing about Chase besides the fact that he has way to many secrets that he keeps from everyone.
"Anyways what's going on here?" I asked but I didn't expect an answer. I know I said I didn't want to get involved but I was curious.
"None of your business," the old man said, and that's when I noticed the black bag he was holding. Then he did something that shocked me. He shot Chase. Chase dropped to the ground. I rushed over to him and looked at his glossy blue eyes, and watched them close. I turned back to the old man.
"What the hell? Why did you do that?" I cried.
"What do you care, you barely even knew him anyways. Plus, there is so much about this that you don't know," he said, with an evil tone. I knew there was so much more to this. I knew nothing.
"You are cruel," I said firmly and that's when he pointed the gun at me. He wouldn't kill an innocent girl is what I thought in my head, but then again, he shot and innocent boy. At least I thought he was innocent but again, I knew nothing about him.
Then, he pulled the trigger. A loud gunshot can be heard but I didn't go down. In fact no bullet hit me. He shot again but nothing happened. The old mans eyes widened and dropped the gun from his hands.
"Oh my god," he said still frozen in position to shoot. "You have the silver rose!"
