School

"I still can't believe you managed to join me in this school." Miles walked excitedly alongside Narcariel through the school hallways. "I don't want to sound like a nerd, but I'm actually excited about the first day of school" Narcariel smiled at Miles' contagious good mood, but didn't say anything because she was unsure of how to behave in this new environment and decided it's best she observed first.

They sat down on the same table, first class: history.

Miles looked around and with relief he noted he didn't recognise anyone, then his eye caught a guy around his age with very messy brown hair, certainly taller than him with a very intimidating face expression.

Out of all the people...

Miles cursed his luck, of course he ended up in the same class as the bully from kindergarten. He tried his best to ignore that. Maybe the bully wouldn't even recognise him. I mean wavy ginger hair wasn't that eye-catching was it?

"Alright everyone sit down." The teacher called out.

"I don't understand," Narcariel whispered to Miles "...why do you take orders from a stranger? I question his authority over me. Obedience needs to be earned doesn't it?"
He laughed quietly, "Alright Ms.IHaveAuthorityIssues."

"That is not my name... but you are aware of that." Narcariel smiled at her growing understanding of human ways.

"Right. Oh yeah about that, if anyone asks for your name it's Nancy alright?" Miles tried to make his strange friend seem as normal as possible.

"But why?"

"Because Nancy is a normal girl and Narcariel is an elf from Lord Of The Rings who came to see her enemies perish. Besides, Nancy suits you." Miles was going to explain as he saw his friend look away trying to process what he'd  just said, but the teacher had started the class.

Alright so my name is Nancy and teachers are leaders who younger humans must take orders from.

It's been a week and Nancy quickly introduced herself to most of the classmates, currently she's the quiet girl but since everyone was new it wasn't too strange.

Nancy found the education system very interesting, humans were to be filled with selected knowledge since young age in order to... get jobs? Apparently homework was the worst concept because no one had time to finish but Nancy figured since she doesn't need sleep, personally saw all history and knows every word in every language, the human education system shouldn't be too challenging for her. It was more of a game really for her, and at the same time she was learning about humans from a completely new perspective.

Miles knew Nancy as his weird best friend with superpowers, Nancy knew the whole truth was dangerous (there'd be questions, and if worst comes he could avoid punishment) but letting him know of the angelic abilities could help her hide them.

Miles also knew Nancy was good at fighting, one time someone attempted to steal his phone and ended up on the ground. Miles also noticed Nancy can be overly protective like that one time some boy said Miles was ugly and earned a bloody nose, he quickly explained violence wasn't necessary and now he keeps a close watch. It certainly raised his confidence though, and now he wasn't afraid of anyone.

Actually he was afraid for any potential bully's safety. His friends innocent look was misleading. Nancy was a good friend to have.

So far Miles was very good at avoiding contact with his old fear. This changed when he and Nancy were making their way to next lesson discussing the Parisian sewer system and she bumped into him. The big intimidating boy Miles told her about. Of course none of Narcariel's ancient multidimensional celestial form didn't fear this human being, but she decided to watch what happens first.

"Watch where you're going." Threatened the boy.

"I'm afraid you're the one who wasn't looking up." Nancy said, unmoved by his tone and the quite obvious height difference.

It took him a while to adjust to the fact someone just challenged him, but he quickly got himself together.

"Wanna say that again?" The boy towered over Nancy and a few students stopped to watch. Miles took a step back, nervous to see how this situation would end, nervously eyeing the growing number of people stopping by to watch.

"Repeating myself would be another interaction with you, thus a waste of energy." This earned a few impressed looks from surrounding students, who were feeling the beginning of a very unfair fight.

"That poor girl is getting herself into trouble." A blonde from the crowd whispered to her friend.

No one was making eye contact with the boy, careful to keep their voices quiet enough for only the person next to them to hear.

Someone said something about him "getting totally owned by a girl" and the boy snapped.
He quickly punched where Nancy's face was a second ago, but she dodged it and grabbed his arm then twisted it. His back was now facing her, and he was covered in a red blush of anger and embarrassment. He freed himself from the hold and came back for a faster and stronger punch.

Once again Nancy dodged it predicting his actions, and hit his stomach from underneath.
Another few hits and he was on the floor.

He sat up and looked at her with awe.

I totally just got owned by a girl

He didn't even have time to get up before the bell rang and students started making their way back to class, rejoicing the defeat of the undefeated bully Connor Wilson. Then again, school was just like that.

Nancy was going to sit down at their usual table when she saw a group of girls crowd around Miles while laughing at him. She quickly refrained herself from doing anything Miles wouldn't want her to and with all the self-control she possessed she walked over to Miles, gave the girls a cold look and led him back to the table. The girls stopped laughing immediately after they saw "the girl who beat up Connor". Miles wasn't happy about being "rescued" by Nancy, grateful, but not happy. As they sat back down he quickly forgot about it and was laughing again at Nancy's confusion with chocolate milk. (Apparently it was irrational to present a cow dressed in human clothing on its product)

Nancy found history classes amusing, she's learned that correcting textbooks isn't acceptable but she still added comments in pencil for self satisfaction, whoever got this textbook next year would surely find it interesting. Adding fun facts about certain civilisations and crossing out what wasn't true. She also drew a moustache on one of the "great leaders" as a way to ridicule him, remembering how rude he was to her on one of her trips to Earth. Because apparently that's what kids did to ridicule people.

She was aware her behaviour was strange sometimes, and limited her words to people other than Miles. Sometimes the teacher would ask a question and she'd look over at Miles for approval then answer it. Very eloquently and professionally too.

It had been a long time since Nancy was this happy, has she ever been this happy? Emotions were growing stronger the longer she stayed on Earth. Most of the time she didn't think about the troubles in heaven. Like for instance the problem with finding a new leader for soul statistics. Earth was her home now. She didn't want to go back.
