Miles heard a knock on the door and since his parents were upstairs he decided to be "like an adult" and open it himself. He would later find out that's not what you do when a stranger knocks on your door.

To his surprise there stood a girl his age, she wore a white shirt with an overall jean dress over it, with two big buttons holding the straps of the dress. The denim material reached her knees and under them white socks were pulled up neatly.

"Hello my name is Narcariel." The girl explained formally.

"Are you an angel?!" Miles asked with delight.

I have severely underestimated average human child intellect, my cover has been blown and now every second I spend near this family is a danger to them, I was so ignorant I should've known I should've been more careful-

"Miles who's this?" Miles' mother smiled at the girl standing in her doorway.

"She's my angel friend!" Miles exclaimed.

Miles' mother laughed lightly and invited the girl in.

"Miles didn't tell me his friend was coming over, it's nice to meet you. Where are your parents?" Narcariel hadn't thought about that.

"...dead" Narcariel tried.

"Oh." Ms. Williams was taken aback."So you must live over at the orphanage. Alright... when you're done playing I'll take you back. I didn't know they let children that young out." She said that last part to herself.

"Miles why don't you show your friend your room and all your toys?" She gestured upstairs smiling warmly at Miles' friend.

Narcariel took a few seconds to process, the mother doesn't believe the child. This is good. All I have to do is convince Miles I'm human.

Narcariel quietly followed Miles to his room.

"Miles I'm not an angel I'm a human." Narcariel attempted to sound convincing.

"Oh... does that mean you're not my friend? That's okay we can become friends then." Miles smiled at his bright idea, quickly adjusting to the correction.

Everything is good now then. I've convinced the child I'm human.

"Here are my cars, those are puzzles and this is my artsy desk. Girls don't like cars though do they?" Miles asked standing next to his proud collection of small toy cars.

Narcariel wondered what the right response is, "No I don't like cars..."

"Yeah I thought so, but do you like drawing? I-" Miles realised he no longer had his colour pencil collection and couldn't show them to his new friend.

Narcariel took out the two pencils, quietly put tape around the third one and started drawing something.

"There's only three colors what are you planning to draw" Miles asked as if it was ridiculous to use such little colour in a drawing.

"That is true but look," she handed him the paper "the colours you own happen to be primary colours therefore if you mix two together you get a third different one, you see yellow and red make orange, and orange and blue make brown. You don't have three colours you have at least ten."

Narcariel decided not to explain how primary colours are different between the colours of light and pigments though.

"Holy cow!" Miles took the paper, "That's so cool! Thank you! What was your name again?"

"...Narcariel" she replied.

"That's a really weird name it has like," Miles clapped his hands four times whispering something "..four syllables, can I just call you... Nancy?" Miles smiled proudly at his knowledge on syllable counting.

"If it's more convenient that way," Narcariel heard footsteps on the stairs, "I must get going now, hopefully we shall see each other again soon, goodbye Miles."

Before he had time to wonder where she was going to go she vanished. Right before his eyes. Miles gawked at the place where the girl stood at a second ago. His mom opened the door to see her son looking behind the curtains saying his new friend was gone. His friend had said goodbye.

He tried convincing his mother the truth but there was no point. Miles just hoped his friend would keep her word and they would meet again. His mom assumed Miles wasn't telling the truth about his new friend, clearly she ran off, but she was concerned for the mysterious girl's safety nonetheless.

For the longest time Miles really wanted to see her again, but it has been 6 years and eventually he stopped thinking about his "imaginary childhood friend".
