Saving Miles

Narcariel blinked a few times before taking in the dark surroundings. It was exactly as she remembered. Barely standing, in the forest where it all started with only one mission, and knowing exactly how it ends, a feeling she couldn't exactly describe was clouding over her head. Time travel had so many rules she just broke. It wasn't right though? What about the paper?

Instinctively she reached into the pocket of her coat where there was a neatly folded list of dates and places. This wasn't Miles' list though, it had all of the moments she visited listed. How on earth did it get there?

She didn't have time to ponder on the matter as she felt a figure closing in. With Miles unconscious on the floor, she remembered herself standing about 100 meters away. Her past self must be fighting with the other angel. Adrenaline and purpose kicked in and she swiftly attacked the first angel who still wasn't over the shock of seeing her there, and he quickly ended up on the ground, bright light coming from his eyes and mouth. This was more draining than she would've expected though, and every muscle felt like it was ten times heavier. She herself got severely injured though, and with all the time traveling, it took all the strength she had to lunge at the last angel.

It was a desperate attempt though, and the fight didn't last long.

The last standing angel held Narcariel down against the tree she remembered so well now, blade rising dangerously about to make its way into her chest. She had no strength left, her tired eyes met the angels and he smirked. Tears stung her eyes... Where do angels go when they die? It didn't matter though, Miles was safe. Miles was safe and after all of this he will live a full life. A full life in which he adopts a beautiful child.

These were the thoughts that somehow comforted Nancy as the Angel attacked, then again, it didn't hurt as much because she knew it coming... right?

OUT

Lila's voice sounded through the vessel just before the blade dug in. Nancy was so weak that the human Nancy was possessing, Lila, could easily expel her, but why?

This situation ends in death for her either way. As soon as she regained control of her body for the first time is 14 years, Lila immediately dug the blade into the angel, but not before feeling a painful stab herself. Then she grabbed the body of the dying angel and pushed it against the tree. His wings got burned out into the trees behind him, completing the vision Lila saw through Nancy's eyes once. He died sitting against it, and it was his wings that were burned against the tree, not Nancy's. Lila got to observe parts of Nancy's life, especially the most recent events as she was much weaker than usual.

She knew Nancy deserved to be saved.

As soon as the wings were burned out her mission was over. She dropped onto the forest floor and her hand gently reached for the side of her stomach. Her hand was completely covered in blood that was steadily pooling by her side.

Dying was much more painful than she expected it to be.

Much more lonely too.

She noticed the pain was starting to get duller and turned her head to see there was a figure kneeling down next to her. It was another angel. She recognized him. He was healing her.

"Don't." She managed to get out with great difficulty.

It wasn't mistrust that caused her to deny letting herself be healed by him.
It was that, not only did she know heaven exists and therefore so does paradise, but she also wanted to truly rest.

Raziel could read most of this, and with great difficulty he did as asked, whispering comforting words as Lila's senses faded.

So once again she gave up her body for Nancy to walk in, who's grace had returned to the scene to check if she could take the vessel again. The blue-grey eyes opened but this time it was only the angel. Raziel helped her up, and Nancy looked at him with all the gratitude she couldn't express.
