Ch. 3- Getting It In

I woke up still in awe.

First thing I was going to do was write a letter to Dr. Davis. Thanking him for everything. I'm sure he's very busy at work and won't have much time for a meeting. I don't think he knows just how much he's put my life into drive. Don't get me wrong, I make sure I have my shit together at all times. Always had a job, mostly in my field- everything, every step had to have purpose.

I may have been a regular shmegular girl from Brooklyn, but I had things to do in life.

I peeled myself from under the massive fluffy blanket J had me under on the couch. I had to get ready to make into the hospital by 10. It was quite a bit away since I didn't have a car yet and it was going on 7:30.

Got my towel and shower cap from my room before heading to the bathroom we both shared. After sophomore year, we decided to move into the campus apartments. Mostly for the bathroom situation. Traditional housing with those God-awful communal bathrooms had to go.

A 20 minute shower later, and a short meeting with my lace front that was trying to play me by lifting up, I was almost ready to go.

I quickly applied some light makeup and put on an outfit I had planned for another interview. Grabbing my folder with all my important documents and such, I headed out the door.

The campus shuttle took me to the train station and I was on my way into the city where Mercy First was located.

I calculated the commute so I'd know going forward. It was about 40 minutes on the train and a good 15 minute walk to the hospital's main entrance. Not bad, not preferred, but not bad. I'm sure it'll be worth it anyway.

Walking in I saw the nurses desk.

"Hello, good morning. I'm looking for a Mrs. Brenners." I said politely.

"Is something wrong, or do you have an appointment?" She asked not even looking up at me. Her name tag read Donna.

"I have an appointment."

"Alright, just take a seat and I'll page her."

I could never understand why nurses had such little people skills when stationed up front.

'Sheila, to the nurses station. Sheila, to the nurses station.' I heard over the intercom.

It wasn't more than ten minutes when a petite brunette, older woman came down the hall.

"Hello, you must be Ammarie. Am I saying that right, hun?" She asked.

"Yes, thank you for asking. How are you Mrs. Brenners?" I said while following her down the hallway.

"Oh, honey, call me Sheila. We're just going to head over the Dr. Somers office. She'll get you started with the preliminary paperwork. I know she's glad to have a student working under her, and I know you're in good hands." She smiled as we stepped onto an elevator.

We got off on the 4th floor and walked a little ways down until stopping at an office door. Sheila knocked twice before cracking the door a little more than it already was.

"Hey, Jenn. I have Ms. Raye here to see you."

"Thanks Sheila, send her in."

Sheila held the door open for me, I thanked her, moved around her and stepped inside the small room. It was simple. A big window, plaques and pictures along the walls and the large wooden desk the doctor sat at. She looked to be pretty young, maybe early thirties. Her long blonde hair was pulled back into a low pony and she actually had on a little simple makeup.
